After Waking Up from Coma, Missouri Teen Kaylee Gain Faces Another Big Problem

The recent recovery progress of a young girl from Missouri, who suffered severe injuries from a beating, has brought a glimmer of hope to her family.

Kaylee has emerged from her coma and has been transferred out of the ICU, making promising strides in her recovery. According to a statement from her parents, shared through their attorney and reported by KSDK of St. Louis, Kaylee has initiated limited verbal communication and embarked on speech therapy.

Despite her progress, Kaylee's memory of the event that led to her hospitalization remains absent.

The incident has sparked a significant response from her family, who are advocating for her assailant to face charges as an adult. This demand stems from the gravity of Kaylee's injuries, including brain damage, inflicted by her 16-year-old attacker, identified by the Daily Mail as Maurnice DeClue.

The decision to seek adult charges is highlighted by the assault's violent nature and the serious consequences Kaylee faces.

DeClue's identification has not been officially disclosed due to her age, as noted by KSDK. Nevertheless, DeClue's family has sought to present a different narrative through a public letter, defending her character and addressing misconceptions surrounding the incident.

DeClue's mother expressed bewilderment over the situation being framed politically, clarifying that the dispute between the two girls should not be misconstrued as racially motivated.

The outpouring of support for Kaylee and her family has been substantial. A GoFundMe page, established by family friend Sarah Hall, has highlighted the severity of Kaylee's condition, including a skull fracture and significant brain damage, necessitating critical care.

This fundraising effort, initiated shortly after the incident on March 12, has garnered over $400,000 in donations, with a goal set at half a million dollars to alleviate the financial burden of medical expenses and lost income.

Updates from Kaylee's mother, April Gain, conveyed through the fundraising platform, offer a glimpse into Kaylee's resilience. Moved from the ICU and now in stable condition, Kaylee faces a daunting path to recovery, underscored by her family's unwavering determination and the community's generous support.
