Alarm Over Biden and Harris Abruptly Canceling Plans, Rushing Back to White House

Americans are keenly observing any unusual activity at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

When President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris suddenly canceled their scheduled holiday trips to return to the White House, social media erupted with speculation.

According to Newsweek, Biden abruptly called off his vacation plans in Delaware to return to Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, Harris also canceled a planned visit to Los Angeles in California.

(Notably, Harris’ change of plans does not appear related to California’s recent state of emergency declaration.)

The lack of explanation for these abrupt decisions and the late timing led to a flurry of rumors and theories online.

One widespread, though unverified, narrative is that this could signal the potential invocation of the 25th Amendment.

For those unfamiliar, the 25th Amendment addresses presidential succession and the temporary transfer of authority. According to the National Constitution Center, it outlines the process for the Vice President to assume presidential duties in the event of the President’s death, resignation, or removal. It also provides for the President to appoint a Vice President under certain conditions.

Most significantly, the amendment details how a sitting President can temporarily transfer power to the Vice President.

As of now, there’s no evidence linking these developments to the 25th Amendment. Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped figures like Republican Senator Mike Lee from Utah and others online from speculating about potential underlying reasons.

“Is this a 25A moment?” Lee questioned in a post on X early Friday.

One X user wrote, “Biden and Harris have returned to the White House. There are rumors that they are planning on invoking the 25th amendment just to make Kamala Harris president for 30 days.”

The post also speculated on the motive behind such a move: “Are the Democrats planning on Kamala Harris giving Joe Biden a pardon for his entire political career?”

Canadian political commentator Liz Churchill added to the speculation, stating, “Biden barely looks alive. If he’s canceling his vacation and returning to the White House… 4 hours past his bedtime… something is happening…”
