Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Accused Conservative Journalist of Assault, But He Has the Incident on Video

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez alleged that conservative journalist Nick Sortor touched her during a confrontation at the United States Capitol about the illegal immigration crisis, an interaction captured on video.

The video, shared on the social media platform X on Sunday evening, shows Sortor questioning Ocasio-Cortez about the effects of the southern border crisis on her district. As the exchange unfolds, her staff appears to block Sortor's path while the congresswoman accuses him of touching her on the staircase.

“Your district is really suffering under the pressure of the border crisis,” Sortor remarked. “Are you talking to the Biden administration about fixing the border?”

WARNING: The following video contains vulgar language that may offend some readers.

Despite efforts by Ocasio-Cortez’s staffers to keep Sortor at a distance, he managed to maneuver around them and position himself behind her.

As the video concludes, Ocasio-Cortez can be heard repeatedly saying, “Sir, don’t touch me.” Sortor, however, denies any physical contact.

“I did not touch you. I have it on video,” he asserted during the tense interaction.

Following the incident, Sortor claimed in a post on X that Ocasio-Cortez contacted the Capitol Police.

“I confronted AOC at the Capitol over her refusal to condemn the Biden Migrant Crisis, which led to a migrant setting an innocent woman on fire today,” he wrote.

“She responded by falsely accusing me of assault, and even got the Capitol Police involved, who agreed I never touched her,” Sortor added.

In his post, Sortor also criticized Ocasio-Cortez, stating, “AOC is one of the WORST members of Congress, and her lack of action is costing the lives of innocent New Yorkers.”

Sortor further accused the congresswoman of blaming Daniel Penny for unsafe subway conditions while supporting policies that encourage more unvetted migrants to cross the border.

Ocasio-Cortez has indeed commented on Penny, who was acquitted earlier this month of charges related to the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man on a New York City subway car.

“The point of our justice system is a level of accountability to prevent a person who does not have remorse about taking another person’s life,” she stated in a video recorded last year, as reported by the New York Post.

“The fact that a person has expressed no remorse indicates a risk that it may happen again,” Ocasio-Cortez said of Penny. “And if we do not want to unleash that level of violence, then we should exert a level of accountability to prevent that from happening.”

This incident comes as violent events on New York City mass transit remain in the spotlight. Most recently, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala allegedly set a woman on fire aboard a subway car Sunday.
