'Americas Grandpa': Trump Puts Smile on Little Girl's Face During Heartfelt Interaction
Those who resort to deception to incite hatred are deserving of both pity and contempt.
On the other hand, when faced with such tactics, a true man defends himself with all his might, all while preserving his humanity.
Take, for example, a recent moment that went viral over the weekend. It led one social media user to dub him “America’s grandpa.” During this incident, President-elect Donald Trump stopped his golf cart to chat with a beaming little girl, complimented her hair, and took a photo with her — a heartwarming interaction that somehow sparked one of the most disgraceful acts of online deception yet, courtesy of a Trump-hating individual on the social media platform X.
On Sunday, the anti-Trump account “PatriotTakes” shared an 18-second clip of Trump’s interaction with the girl. By Tuesday morning, it had garnered more than 5.8 million views.
“Oh, I love that girl. I love that hair. I want her hair. Can I buy your hair? I’ll pay you millions for that,” Trump said warmly to the little girl as he approached in his golf cart.
To those not plagued by Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), these words likely seemed endearing and grandfatherly.
However, as we all know too well, the TDS-stricken “PatriotTakes” account decided to highlight the girl’s skin color for reasons that can only be described as sinister.
“Trump to a little Black girl at his golf club,” read their accompanying tweet.
Only a truly racist liberal would make such a remark, as if it had any bearing on the situation.
True to form, the account, whose sole purpose appears to be stoking division, conveniently omitted the full context of the interaction.
In reality, after praising the girl’s hair, Trump invited her to sit in the golf cart and pose for a photo with him. She happily obliged, smiling throughout the moment.
“That’s amazing. You’re gonna say you were with the president. You played golf with him! Say ‘thank you, Mr. President,’” a male voice could be heard saying off-camera.
An X user who shared the second half of the clip didn’t hesitate to call out “PatriotTakes” for their blatant dishonesty.
The same user also compared Trump’s interaction to President Joe Biden’s well-documented inappropriate behavior toward children.
“Now play the rest of the clip. At least he is not groping and sniffing her hair like the current president does at the sight of kids,” the user tweeted.
Fortunately, the overwhelming majority who commented on or shared the “PatriotTakes” clip recognized the wholesome nature of Trump’s interaction with the girl.
“America’s grandpa,” one X user aptly remarked.
Others praised Trump as “sweet,” a “legend,” and “a man of the people.”
Time and again, Trump has demonstrated the goodness of his character. He has nothing to prove to anyone.
Nevertheless, the deceitful editing by “PatriotTakes” serves as a reminder of the countless hoaxes that have targeted Trump since 2016.
Now that Trump has earned the support of a clear majority of Americans and defeated his most unhinged critics, we can respond to such tactics with little more than a roll of the eyes, confident that justice will follow his return to the White House.
In the meantime, as the 19th-century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche warned, we should take care not to become monsters ourselves when fighting them.
There’s no better embodiment of that struggle than Trump, whose kindness and love are visible to all but the most hate-filled souls.
