AOC and 'Squad' Dems Melt Down After Ilhan Omar Accused of Hamas Connection
"Members of the so-called 'squad' of far-left House Democrats expressed strong reactions on social media on Wednesday after a Republican CNN contributor referred to Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota as a 'mouthpiece for terrorism.'
Among those who voiced their concerns was Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, who called for one of the network’s few conservative voices to be silenced, citing 'blatant Islamophobia.'
Various network hosts and guests were discussing Omar when political analyst Scott Jennings made a critical remark about the Democrat.
“I am surprised that in the year of our Lord 2024, there is a public relations agent for Hamas sitting in the United States Congress,” Jennings said in a brief clip that went viral on the social media platform X.
According to the far-left outlet The Daily Beast, the CNN panel had been discussing Omar’s interview with network host Abby Phillip before Jennings’ comment.
In that interview, the congresswoman said she supported President Joe Biden’s re-election bid but criticized the U.S. government’s stance on supporting Israel in its ongoing war against Islamic terrorism in Gaza.
Omar, a Somali-born Muslim and a frequent critic of American foreign policy in the Middle East, was the subject of controversy following her remarks two days after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people, mostly civilians.
Reacting to Jennings’ comment, her fellow 'squad' Democrats expressed strong emotions.
Ocasio-Cortez shared the clip and commented, “How on earth is this kind of blatant Islamophobia so casually accepted without pushback? This is shocking.”
Democratic Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts also condemned the remarks.
“Blatant Islamophobia has no place in our society — let alone on primetime TV,” Pressley said in a post on X. “It’s dangerous, unacceptable, and cannot be normalized.”
Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri also expressed anger, stating, “Scott Jennings’ comments are reminiscent of the anti-Muslim bigotry we saw in the George Bush post-9/11 era.”
“It is disgusting and must not be normalized,” Bush added. “CNN should denounce this hateful, dangerous, and blatant Islamophobia immediately.”
Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York, another member of the 'squad,' also reacted strongly.
“Scott Jennings’ comments are disgustingly racist and Islamophobic. Comments like this, especially on national news, are extremely dangerous and fuel anti-Muslim hate crimes,” Bowman wrote.
“CNN should never have him on again. This hatred is unacceptable and cannot be normalized,” the Democrat concluded."
