Awful Truth Finally Comes Out About The Obama’s Marriage

During her appearance on Jennifer Hudson’s chat show last month, Michelle Obama showed emotional candor but took a more direct tone when discussing her husband, Barack Obama.

“He’s doing OK, he’s doing OK,” she remarked. “Yeah, yeah. He’s still working too hard, you know. But I think that’s something he will always do.”

When asked about their upcoming Christmas plans in Hawaii, she shared: “We’re going to head to the island for a little sun and to try to unwind. That’s why you gotta pick your husband right. He got a lot cuter when I found out he was from Hawaii.”

Mrs. Obama, who celebrates her 61st birthday today, seemed fully committed to “unwinding.” She even skipped traveling back to Washington for former President Jimmy Carter’s state burial last week. Instead, Barack Obama represented their family and was seated beside Donald Trump.

She also won’t be attending Trump’s inauguration in Washington, D.C., on Monday. Historically, former presidents and first ladies have set aside political divisions to attend inaugurations, but the Trumps broke that tradition in 2021 by not showing up for Joe Biden’s ceremony.

According to a source close to Mrs. Obama who spoke with People magazine, “There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake.” The insider continued: “Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”

Another source echoed a similar sentiment to the New York Post: “She’s always been very deliberate about where and how she shows up. She doesn’t need to rally around [Trump], even if they were united. Her absence is a powerful statement.”

Her decision not to attend the Carter funeral raised more eyebrows. It’s unlikely she held any animosity toward Carter, whom she and Barack had recently praised in a joint statement for his “integrity, respect, and compassion.”

The event brought together prominent figures from the Democratic Party to honor Carter, the longest-living former president in U.S. history. Yet, Mrs. Obama, who attended Republican George H.W. Bush’s funeral in 2018, was notably absent. CNN reported that her absence was attributed to a “scheduling conflict,” but it was acknowledged this conflict might not have been substantial, as she was reportedly “still in Hawaii on an extended holiday vacation.”

The Obamas’ notable absences have fueled speculation about their relationship, with rumors suggesting they might be “heading for divorce.” The couple, estimated to have a net worth of $70 million, has been completing a beachside estate on Oahu featuring two swimming pools—a luxurious addition to their property portfolio that includes homes in Washington, Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard.

In a statement, Mrs. Obama’s spokesperson said, “Mrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from the remarkable former President.”

Observers noted that she could have opted to switch seats with Barack and quietly made her statement without drawing much attention. Reportedly, however, she would have been seated next to Trump, which might explain her decision to remain absent.

Michelle Obama has been vocal about her criticisms of Trump, particularly regarding the sexual assault allegations against him and his promotion of the “birther” conspiracy, which she felt put her family at risk. She has admitted she struggled emotionally when attending Trump’s first inauguration in 2017, even breaking down in tears over the experience.

Critics argue she could have set aside personal grievances to honor Carter, especially given the Obamas’ public call for Americans to “extend good faith and grace – even to people with whom we deeply disagree” following Trump’s 2016 victory.

Her absence has fueled speculation about deeper issues, with some suggesting she avoided the event due to troubles in her marriage rather than a distaste for Trump. Social media buzzed with theories, though there’s no concrete evidence to support these claims.

The Obamas, who first met as young attorneys in Chicago in 1989, celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in October. They marked the occasion with a heartfelt post on social media, sharing a photo of them embracing at a museum in New York.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better partner and friend to go through life with,” Barack captioned the photo. Michelle reciprocated the sentiment, writing, “32 action-packed years with my honey! Through it all, thank you for always having my back, being by my side, and finding ways to make me smile. I love you, @Barack Obama.”

Despite their outward expressions of love, Michelle has acknowledged the challenges of their marriage. In a 2022 panel discussion, she admitted she “hated” Barack for ten years when their daughters, Sasha and Malia, were young. “People assume I’m being catty because I was infatuated with my husband for ten years,” she said.

Barack has also spoken openly about their struggles. In a 2023 interview with CBS, he reflected on Michelle’s previous comments, adding, “It’s really nice to be away from the White House and spend a little more time with her.”

Michelle has cited personality differences as a source of tension. She told Oprah Winfrey in a podcast, “Barack wants to talk rationally, and I’m like, ‘rational?’ Don’t come to me with sense—I’m angry! Don’t come to me with your three bullet points—you better get out of here and let me cool down!”
