Biden Does What His Staff Told Him He 'Can't Do,' Calls 'All the Young Women' Onstage at White House Event
President Joe Biden experienced another awkward moment involving children during a White House event on Monday.
The president was hosting the Gotham F.C. professional women’s soccer team, who were being honored for winning the National Women’s Soccer League championship last year.
Everything appeared to be going smoothly.
Team captain Ali Krieger expressed her gratitude to Biden for recognizing the team’s achievements, but things quickly took an unexpected turn.
Approaching the podium, Biden remarked, “I thought when I became president, I’d get to do what I want, but my staff always tells me what I can’t do.”
“But I’m going to do it anyway,” he added.
Without clear reason, Biden invited "all the young women, the young kids" in the audience to join him on stage, later extending the invitation to boys as well.
He then began interacting with the children.
When the kids lingered on the side of the stage, Biden insisted that they come to the center and stand beside him.
After being presented with a jersey, Biden turned to the children again, engaging them in conversation.
The event seemed to deviate from the original plan, and suddenly, music began playing to close out the ceremony.
To recap: The event was intended to honor the Gotham F.C. women’s team for their championship win. However, the focus shifted to the children as Biden engaged them in conversation, and the ceremony concluded.
At least this incident was not as unusual as when, as vice president, Biden infamously sniffed a young girl’s hair and kissed her during a Senate swearing-in ceremony, prompting her to pull away.
It was widely considered inappropriate behavior.
This pattern of disregarding personal boundaries with women and children has been noted in the past.
Thankfully, there was no hair-sniffing on Monday.
