Bombshell: Kathie Lee Gifford Recalls Time Donald Trump Saved Her and Her Baby from 'Murderer,' 'Rapist'

One of the most recognizable figures in American television has shared a lesser-known chapter of her life—one that involves a major political figure in a significant way.
In an interview with conservative commentator and former ESPN host Sage Steele, published Friday, longtime morning TV host Kathie Lee Gifford recounted how Donald Trump stepped in to protect her from a dangerous stalker in the 1990s.
The experience left a lasting impact on how she views the man who would later become president.
As reported by Fox News, the incident took place during the 1990s when Gifford was hosting the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
At the time, she had just given birth to her daughter, Cassidy, less than two months earlier. Her husband, the late NFL legend Frank Gifford, received an urgent call from the FBI.
According to Gifford, the caller warned her husband that a “psychopathic murderer, a rapist and murderer” who had brutalized his own aunt was now targeting her.
The FBI advised the couple to continue their usual routine to avoid tipping off the criminal that they were aware of the threat while law enforcement handled the situation.
Frank Gifford agreed but insisted on making one phone call—to Donald Trump. Gifford recalled Trump’s reassuring words to her husband:
“Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls. I’ve got your girls. And don’t you worry.”
Frank then informed the FBI, saying, “I called Don Trump. He says he’s going to take care of my and my daughter,” Gifford recounted.
True to his word, Trump took swift action. He arranged for a helicopter to transport Gifford and her baby from their home in Greenwich, Connecticut, to Atlantic City and ensured she had a team of security personnel throughout the pageant, she told Steele.
Since she had not been fully informed of the details, Gifford did not initially grasp the seriousness of the threat.
It was only on the final day, when she spotted a newspaper headline declaring “Kathie Lee Gifford Death Threats,” that the gravity of the situation hit her.
“Then I understood what Donald had done,” Gifford told Steele. “Then I understood what Frank had done … and all of that.”
She later learned from the FBI that the man who had been after her was eventually captured and imprisoned.
Over the decades, public opinion on Trump has evolved—from real estate mogul to reality TV star to the highest office in the country—but for Gifford, her perspective was shaped by that critical moment years ago.
“The story I just told you is the man I know,” Gifford told Steele.
“Donald saved my life, saved my daughter’s life, and if I called him today would save it again. People don’t know that about him.”
