A small aircraft went down in Philadelphia on Friday, occurring less than 48 hours after a mid-air collision between a passenger plane and an Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
The Learjet 55 crashed around 6:30 p.m., shortly after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, as stated in a release by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to a report from NBC Philadelphia 10.
The aircraft descended near the intersection of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.
According to the FAA, the jet’s two occupants were en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Springfield, Missouri.
Dramatic footage of the crash scene quickly surfaced on social media.

Law enforcement informed KYW-TV in Philadelphia that the crash occurred in a residential area, sparking fires in multiple homes.
“The plane crashed into a neighborhood outside the Roosevelt Mall just moments after leaving the airstrip,” reported the CBS News affiliate.
Steve Keeley of WTXF-TV in Philadelphia shared footage from the site, confirming the presence of Philadelphia police and fire crews.
