CEO Sick of Dealing With Wokeness Posts Hilarious Sales Offer for All His Canada Stores

GameStop is looking to offload its operations in Canada and France, a decision the company’s chief executive attributed to the “woke” business climates in both countries.

CEO Ryan Cohen took to social media platform X on Tuesday, extending an invitation to potential buyers interested in acquiring the video game retailer’s divisions in these progressive-leaning regions.

“Email M&A@gamestop.com if you’re interested in buying GameStop Canada or Micromania France,” Cohen posted.

In a sarcastic follow-up, he added, “High taxes, Liberalism, Socialism, Progressivism, Wokeness and DEI included at no additional cost if you buy today!”

Cohen’s blunt approach sparked some humorous reactions on social media.

“I can buy it with taxpayers money. Please be quick to dm me, before DOGE gets me,” joked an account named Not Jerome Powell, seemingly a parody of the Federal Reserve chairman.

Another user quipped, “No one in Canada can afford to buy it from you.”

In an official news release issued Tuesday, the company confirmed that “as part of its evaluation of its international assets, the Company intends to pursue a sale of its operations in France and Canada.”

The statement also included the “M&A@gamestop.com” contact for interested parties to reach out with inquiries.

Based in Grapevine, Texas, GameStop has shuttered numerous locations in recent years due to shifts in the marketplace and evolving consumer preferences, with many gamers now opting to purchase digital copies of their favorite titles online.

In a regulatory filing late last year, company executives noted they had “initiated a comprehensive store portfolio optimization review which involves identifying stores for closure based on many factors, including an evaluation of current market conditions and individual store performance.”

“While this review is ongoing and a specific set of stores has not been identified for closure, we anticipate that it may result in the closure of a larger number of stores than we have closed in the past few years,” the filing detailed.

GameStop has been grappling with industry changes, making its latest move a logical shift in adapting its business strategy.

However, Cohen and his leadership team seem particularly motivated to divest from their ventures in what he described as “woke” Canada and France.

Given today’s economic and political landscape, GameStop appears to favor operating in its home state of Texas rather than in regions that embrace “Liberalism, Socialism, Progressivism, Wokeness and DEI.”

As long as nations like Canada and France continue along these ideological lines, companies will likely gravitate toward business-friendly environments that prioritize economic pragmatism over progressive policies.

Simply put, Cohen’s offer may not generate much enthusiasm, and if a buyer does emerge, it will almost certainly be in spite of the “wokeness,” not because of it.
