CNN Freaks Out After Trump Announces His Pick for Attorney General

Liberal commentators on various news networks expressed unease following President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to nominate former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as U.S. Attorney General, replacing former Rep. Matt Gaetz as his nominee.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber on Thursday, political scientist Jason Johnson described Bondi as a savvy legal strategist who could effectively advance Trump’s agenda. He also highlighted her expertise in key areas like immigration enforcement, calling her a “dangerous and effective pick.”

“Pam Bondi is exactly what I was saying in the last segment that we should all fear because she’s competent. We may not agree with her ideologically, but she actually knows how to do this job,” Johnson said. “So if anyone on the Democratic side or anyone who cared about liberty or justice was thinking, well, maybe Matt Gaetz will screw this up and that’ll give us some time.”

Johnson emphasized Bondi’s track record on immigration and education policies as indicators of her potential performance as U.S. Attorney General.

“She knows what she’s doing about immigration. Remember, Florida is one of those states that’s been very aggressive about migrants and deportation and moving people to different states and everything else like that,” he said, adding, “Florida has enacted all sorts of rules and laws to curtail students and what they can do on campuses and finding legal justifications for manipulating education money. She is a dangerous and effective pick and that’s, frankly, worse than what we would have got with Matt Gaetz, even with the deplorable moral background that he has.”

On the other hand, CNN conservative contributor Scott Jennings praised Trump’s decision to nominate Bondi, viewing her as a significant improvement over Gaetz, whose personal and professional controversies made his confirmation unlikely.

“I think this is a great move by Trump to be pragmatic and tell Gaetz to get out and a really good move to go with Bondi. This is not a shaky limb. This is a sturdy branch he’s going with for AG here,” Jennings remarked.
