Colbert Pleads with Anti-Israel Protesters After Pelosi Interview Disruption: 'Can You Listen to Her Answer?'

Are the cracks within the Democratic Party deeper than they appear?

At first glance, everything seems to be falling into place around Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who are heading the Democratic ticket for the upcoming election.

The glitzy Democratic National Convention in Chicago has featured a diverse and star-studded lineup of speakers, all pushing for the Harris-Walz ticket.

Polls are suddenly more favorable, “momentum” is gathering, excitement appears to be rising, and the Harris campaign feels confident enough to consider skipping debates.

On the surface, it seems like a great time to be a Democrat.

But is it really?

Beneath all the optimism and cheer lies a deeply divisive issue that Democrats can’t simply gloss over with catchy slogans or celebrity endorsements.

That issue is Israel.

While conservatives may have some disagreements about whether it’s wise to continue sending aid to Israel amid domestic struggles, that’s a far cry from the openly anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian faction threatening to fracture the left.

This was made painfully, awkwardly, and abundantly clear on Tuesday night during an interview that went off the rails between late-night host Stephen Colbert and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, anti-Israel protesters largely disrupted the Colbert-Pelosi interview following Night 2 of the DNC.

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” is airing live shows throughout DNC week, and the unpredictability of live television came to the forefront on Tuesday night when an anti-Israel protester disrupted the set.

“Free Palestine!” one protester, described as “a woman,” shouted while also questioning U.S. support for Israel.

Another protester asked Pelosi why the U.S. provides Israel with weapons after Pelosi had stated that “war has no place in a civilized society.”

Things became so chaotic that even Colbert had to admit that Pelosi’s responses were “unsatisfying to some people,” according to the New York Post.

And “unsatisfying” might have been putting it mildly.

“Will you listen to her response?” an increasingly frustrated Colbert asked, pleading with the disruptive protesters to allow Pelosi to speak.

At another point, while discussing a two-state solution, more protesters began shouting, further disrupting the segment.

“Please don’t interrupt my guests,” Colbert said, this time without asking anything of the protesters.

“Madam Speaker, we’re a live show, so we have to wrap up now. Please come back, and we can continue this conversation,” Colbert concluded, ending the tumultuous segment.

The DNC, and ostensibly these anti-Israel protests on a national stage, will continue through Thursday.
