Customs Announces Massive Seizure Of Ammunition At U.S.-Mexico Border

As President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance prepare for their January inauguration, a new scandal involving President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris has surfaced.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that agents at the El Paso Port of Entry recently intercepted 11,100 rounds of 7.62 ammunition concealed in a pickup truck driven by a Mexican national.

“The volume of this seizure is substantial,” noted CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations, Hector Mancha, in a press release. “To put it in perspective, CBP officers at El Paso area ports seized 15,678 rounds of ammunition in fiscal year 2021, 7,224 rounds in fiscal year 2022, and 11,205 rounds in fiscal year 2023.”

The press release detailed the incident: "The seizure occurred around 5:30 p.m. when a 2011 Honda Ridgeline driven by a 32-year-old Mexican man arrived from Mexico. The CBP officer at the primary inspection booth referred the vehicle for a secondary exam after a Low Energy Portal scan showed possible anomalies."

A CBP detection canine and a follow-up Z-portal X-ray scan confirmed discrepancies within the vehicle’s quarter panels. Officers found multiple bags of loose 7.62 ammunition concealed within the vehicle.

The driver was detained under 18 USC 545 for smuggling goods into the U.S. and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for prosecution. This was the second major ammunition seizure at BOTA in recent months; CBP officers had previously confiscated over 93,000 rounds in the southbound lanes of BOTA on August 17, 2024.

Border and immigration concerns ranked high among voter priorities, according to exit polls, and Harris faced criticism for her handling of these issues throughout the campaign.

Trump was reportedly taken aback in the days leading up to Election Day upon hearing Harris’s statement to CNN claiming that the Biden administration managed the border well.

During a Fox News interview in Arizona, Trump responded to remarks from Harris’s recent town hall, where she labeled him a “fascist.”

“I have never seen anybody so inept at speaking,” Trump stated. “Her performance was terrible. I’ve never seen anything like it from a top-level politician. But she did call me a fascist, and everyone knows that’s false. They throw labels until something sticks.”

Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin then shifted the conversation to border policies:

MELUGIN: In her town hall, she said she believes they managed the border correctly. CNN asked her, “Would you have done anything differently?” and she replied, “I think we did the right thing.”

TRUMP: Wait, did she actually say she handled it correctly?

MELUGIN: Correct. She said that.

TRUMP: She said, “I think we did the right thing”?

TRUMP: We allowed 21 million people in. We allowed 13,099 murderers. Mental institutions around the world sent people here. If she thinks that’s handling it correctly, she’s grossly incompetent. They created the worst border situation in history.

During the CNN town hall with Anderson Cooper, Harris inaccurately claimed that Trump “didn’t do anything” regarding the border.

Referring to Trump’s policies, Harris said, “I think what he did and how he did it didn’t make much sense because he didn’t do much of anything.”

However, Trump constructed over 400 miles of border wall, and his “Remain in Mexico” policy led to the sharpest reduction in illegal crossings in a generation, as confirmed by federal statistics and Border Patrol agents.
