Cybertruck Bomber Sent Pictures of the Rental to Ex-Girlfriend Before Detonation
Three days before allegedly taking his own life and detonating a rented Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Army veteran Matthew Livelsberger exchanged upbeat texts with his ex-girlfriend, expressing excitement about the electric vehicle.
Livelsberger, a 37-year-old married Colorado resident and Green Beret, was identified as the driver of the Tesla truck that exploded on New Year’s Day in front of the Trump hotel.
Notably, his messages to his former girlfriend, Alicia Arritt, seemed cheerful and lighthearted—an unexpected contrast to the tragic and shocking events that unfolded days later, according to the Denver Gazette.
“I rented a Tesla Cybertruck. It’s the s***,” Livelsberger texted Arritt early Sunday morning from Denver. “I feel like Batman or Halo.”
Accompanying his messages were photos of the rented Cybertruck.
“I’m building drones in my new position,” he shared. “You would love it.”
Arritt, surprised to hear from Livelsberger after their difficult breakup in 2021, described their interaction as unexpected.
“Livelsberger married and had a baby daughter,” the outlet reported. “Arritt is a single mother who works 12-hour shifts.”
Curious about the truck, Arritt asked, “How fast is it?”
“Ungodly,” Livelsberger replied, comparing it to his childhood memories. “It matches my Kobe 2 shoes I had when I was little.”
These seemingly joyful texts offered no clue about what would occur on New Year’s Day, when Livelsberger reportedly shot himself inside the Tesla Cybertruck moments before it exploded outside President-elect Donald Trump’s hotel.
Arritt expressed disbelief at her ex-boyfriend’s actions, describing him as kind and politically conservative.
“I just want everyone to know that Matt was the kindest man I ever knew,” she told the Denver Gazette.
According to the outlet, Livelsberger had dedicated most of his 19-year military career to assignments at Fort Carson, Colorado, and in Germany.
The FBI informed Arritt that Livelsberger had reached out to other former girlfriends in his final days.
Reports also revealed that his wife left him on Dec. 26 after discovering he had been unfaithful.
The incident raises numerous questions about Livelsberger’s motives and state of mind.
As a Trump supporter, why would he target the president-elect’s hotel? What led to the explosion, and why did he contact past romantic partners before the event? Moreover, if he admired the Tesla Cybertruck, why destroy it?
Given the opacity of investigations involving federal agencies, the public may never receive clear answers.
Fortunately, Livelsberger was the sole fatality in the explosion. Moving forward, authorities must remain vigilant against potential terrorist acts, especially with heightened tensions surrounding Trump’s inauguration.
As the nation braces for potential unrest, it is crucial for federal and local agencies to take proactive measures to prevent similar tragedies.
