Dem State Attorneys General Form ‘Pact’ To Oppose Key Trump Priority: Report

A report acquired by the Heritage Foundation details a strategy to counter the Trump administration’s sweeping reforms on illegal immigration, particularly the initiative to revoke birthright citizenship as a constitutional guarantee.

The conservative organization disclosed that 23 attorneys general from 22 states and Washington, D.C., have entered into a “secret pact” to coordinate a significant effort aimed at blocking the elimination of birthright citizenship following President Donald Trump’s issuance of an executive order on the matter.

The foundation’s Oversight project posted on X that this initiative had already been formulated and was “signed beginning on November 8, 2024.”

“This agreement, just 3 days after President Trump’s landslide election win, shows that these resistance actors began, as a matter of absolute urgent top priority, plotting their resistance to President Trump’s anticipated actions to end birthright citizenship,” the post stated. “Their top priority was not gas, groceries, public safety, or any other matter of concerns of their citizen constituents, but instead a raw political calculus to ensure that the future children of the illegal aliens that entered during the Biden Border Crisis could turn into voters.”

Structured as a legal “common interest agreement,” all involved parties committed to assisting in “potential litigation to challenge executive action related to ending or curtailing birthright citizenship,” according to the Western Journal.

The agreement “sets forth the agreement under which each Party and their respective staff, management, consultants, experts, counsel, and agents will manage and protect confidential and/or privileged information shared and exchanged regarding” efforts to contest Trump’s birthright citizenship order.

President Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance have voiced concerns over the influence of district courts in obstructing their policies on birthright citizenship. On Tuesday, a judge in New Hampshire became the third to issue a ruling against enforcing Trump’s executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship for those in the country illegally or individuals in the U.S. on a temporary basis.

One day prior to this decision, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized “activist judges” for undermining executive authority, asserting that their rulings—not Trump’s executive actions—constitute the real “constitutional crisis.”

“We believe these judges are acting as judicial activists rather than honest arbiters of the law,” Leavitt stated to reporters, as reported by the AP. She maintained that “the real constitutional crisis is taking place within our judicial branch.”

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is also pursuing legal action concerning undocumented individuals in the U.S.

Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed on Wednesday that the administration has initiated a lawsuit against New York state, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Attorney General Letitia James, accusing them of violating federal law by protecting illegal immigrants.

“This is a new DOJ,” Bondi declared at a press briefing. “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today.”

Additionally, Mark Schroeder, commissioner of the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, has been implicated. Bondi pointed to New York’s Green Light laws, known as the Driver’s License Act, which enables illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

The legislation restricts federal agencies from accessing driver’s license data in New York State.

“They have green light laws, meaning they’re giving a green light to any illegal alien in New York, where law enforcement officers cannot check their identity if they pull them over,” Bondi explained. “And law enforcement officers do not have access to their background. And if these great men and women pull over someone and don’t have access to their background, they have no idea who they’re dealing with, and it puts their lives on the line every single day.”

“If you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable,” Bondi emphasized. “We did it to Illinois, strike one. Strike two is New York. And if you are a state not complying with federal law, you’re next. Get ready.”
