Democratic Senators Take Action Against McDonald's Right After Trump's Visit
Something seems suspicious here … and it’s not the Filet-O-Fish.
On Sunday, former President Donald Trump — the Republican presidential nominee — made a stop at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, a well-received campaign move during a busy weekend in the crucial swing state.
(Well, mostly well-received.)
Less than a day after Trump’s visit to McDonald’s, three Democratic senators suddenly raised concerns about the fast-food giant.
Coincidence? Maybe.
But it’s still pretty eyebrow-raising.
In a pointed letter sent Monday, Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts (naturally), Robert Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania, and Ron Wyden of Oregon addressed McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski. The letter expressed "concern regarding increases in fast food prices over the last several years."
It's worth noting that “the last several years” pretty much covers the Biden administration — along with the effects of Bidenomics and Kamalanomics — but I digress.
“We write with concern regarding increases in fast food prices over the last several years and seeking information regarding McDonald’s pricing decisions,” the senators wrote.
Then, they almost contradicted their own argument, admitting that McDonald’s pricing issues aren’t unique.
“While McDonald’s is not the only fast food restaurant that has increased prices significantly in recent years, its dominant market position as the largest fast food chain in the United States has an outsize impact on American consumers,” the senators continued.
Ah, so they’re penalizing the company for being successful. Gotta love that “equity,” right?
“While working families are trying to make ends meet, McDonald’s and its corporate counterparts have continued to grow their profits,” the senators claimed, seemingly describing how most corporations are managing under Biden’s economic policies.
The full letter, which you can read here, probes Kempczinski and McDonald’s on multiple issues.
“Earlier this summer, in an effort to combat lagging sales, McDonald’s announced a $5 Meal Deal,” the senators questioned. “Although initially introduced as a limited-time offer, [McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger] recently said the company is extending the deal because its availability has helped shift ‘sentiment towards the brand around value and affordability.’
“Apart from the $5 Meal Deal, has McDonald’s lowered prices on individual menu items? If no, please explain why not.”
Wait, what? Even aside from the questionable timing of this inquiry, since when do U.S. senators have the right to pressure a private business — no matter how big — about their pricing decisions around a $5 deal?
Neither God nor the Constitution grants them that authority. This is just another blatant example of Democrats overreaching in a way that borders on unconstitutional.
It’s gross, authoritarian, and exactly what Democrats constantly accuse Trump of doing.
In other words: They’re hypocrites, through and through.
And all of this assumes that this McDonald’s inquiry isn’t a petty response to Trump’s visit.
But if it is? The deep state swamp is clearly more terrified of Trump than anyone could’ve thought.
