Dems Fume Over Trump’s Reported Plan for Nancy Pelosi Federal Building

President Donald Trump is reportedly moving forward with plans to sell the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building in San Francisco, California, a decision that has sparked criticism from state Democrats.
As reported by WABC-TV on Thursday, the Trump administration is working to offload the property bearing the former House speaker’s name, as well as another building located at 50 United Nations Plaza.
This initiative is designed to reduce maintenance costs while opting to lease office space for federal workers as necessary.
Former Democratic Representative Jackie Speier from California argued that the planned sales lack logic and suggested—without citing evidence—that Trump’s decision is politically motivated against his rivals.
“It’s another example of how he is coming after Democrats,” she stated. “He’s coming after California, and it’s all about payback.”
She also noted: “The lease will keep going up and you will end up paying the property taxes of the lessor, whereas you don’t pay federal taxes when you are a federal government.”
Additionally, the Trump administration may consider selling the Leo J. Ryan Federal Records Center, named in honor of the congressman who was killed during the 1978 Jonestown massacre.
WABC-TV also reported that Trump recently issued an executive order directed at the Presidio Trust—a federal agency created in 1996 to oversee 1,500 acres of historical parks and properties in San Francisco.
Trump’s directive reaffirmed that “it is the policy of my Administration to dramatically reduce the size of the Federal Government, while increasing its accountability to the American people.”
“This order commences a reduction in the elements of the Federal bureaucracy that the President has determined are unnecessary,” the order further stated. “Reducing the size of the Federal Government will minimize Government waste and abuse, reduce inflation, and promote American freedom and innovation.”
Despite this, the Presidio Trust assured that its operations would remain unchanged, pointing out that it has been financially self-sufficient since 2013 by generating revenue through building leases, as cited by the Western Journal.
“We will present a report on our activities to the Office of Management and Budget, as required by the order, in two weeks,” the organization stated. “We are confident that our activities are all statutorily-based.”
Former California Senator Barbara Boxer also pushed back against the move.
“I would say to this administration, whether it’s President Trump or [Elon] Musk or all those [Department of Government Efficiency] people, that when something is a raging success, keep your hands off it,” she remarked.
A spokesperson for Pelosi, who was instrumental in securing $200 million in federal maintenance funds in 2023 for the Presidio Trust, emphasized that “the Presidio Trust is statutory, and it has been protected from assaults over time by its statutory strength.”
“We will be carefully reviewing the language of the President’s executive order and its purpose,” the spokesperson affirmed.
Meanwhile, Trump is ramping up his actions early in his presidency, accelerating efforts that have riled progressives in Washington.
On Saturday, the president took to social media to commend Musk for highlighting wasteful government expenditures. Musk has increasingly become a primary target of Democrats.
Shortly after, Trump urged Musk to step up his efforts even further.
“ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE,” Trump posted on Truth Social, staying true to his characteristic all-caps style. “REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!”
For liberals, that message was troubling—but Musk’s response may have been even more so.
“Will do, Mr. President!” he replied on the social media platform X.
Beyond targeting USAID, Musk’s DOGE team is reportedly setting its sights on the Department of Education, the Internal Revenue Service, and is even considering a full audit of the Defense Department, according to various reports.
