Dems Receive ‘Talking Points’ To Combat Harris’ ‘Border Czar’ Narrative
According to Fox News, Democrats have received a “talking points” memo to defend Vice President Kamala Harris's role concerning the chaos and record illegal crossings at the southern and northern U.S. borders. An unnamed Democratic lawmaker, who confirmed the memo, mentioned they were unsure of its origin. Fox obtained a copy of the memo, which was also posted on social media.
Key points from the memo include:
- Harris was never appointed “border czar”
- The title was “invented by Republicans” and the media
- Harris was not tasked by Biden to lead immigration and border policy
- The VP was assigned to address the “root causes” of mass migration, focusing on Central America
- Mass migration from countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador has decreased
This memo comes as illegal immigration and the influx of migrants in American cities becomes a major concern this election cycle.
As reported by Outkick, some Democratic lawmakers have already started using these talking points in their media responses. On Thursday, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Barragán answered Fox’s questions using the exact wording from the memo.
“Well, first of all, this is more misinformation and disinformation. The vice president was never in charge of the border. She was never in charge of immigration policy. On the contrary, it’s Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who is in charge of border policy. He’s in charge under Homeland Security,” he stated.
“And Republicans already tried to impeach him and failed. So what are they doing now? They’re making it up and blaming her. What vice president Harris was in charge of addressing the root causes of migration, a diplomatic effort in other countries in the Northern Triangle, and in specific, and you ask, what did she do?” he continued.
“She helped raise $5 billion to invest in the economy in these countries, with the private sector and when she first started, migration from those countries started at 41%. 41% of people that were marketing were coming from the northern Triangle countries in 2023, which went down to 21%. So don’t come and start the false lies because we’re going to make sure to correct them,” he added.
Mayorkas was impeached by a single vote in the House in February, but Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) ensured the articles were quickly dismissed without a full trial in the Democrat-controlled Senate in April.
Despite a decrease in migration from the “root causes” countries, illegal crossings have continued to set records throughout the Biden-Harris administration. Harris has not provided any solutions for these illegal migrants and does not support deporting them, despite the fact that a majority of Americans, including 42 percent of Democrats, do.
Most left-leaning mainstream media outlets are now abandoning the “border czar” label, although they had previously used the term to describe Harris since President Biden assigned her to address the situation in March 2021, a few months into their term.
At that time, Biden said, “I’ve asked her, the VP, today — because she’s the most qualified person to do it — to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.”
The New York Post recently highlighted several outlets, including Axios, Newsweek, and USA Today, that have revised their reporting to claim Harris was never a “border czar.”
