Developing: Deadly Mass Shooting at Wisconsin Christian School

Multiple fatalities occurred after gunfire erupted Monday morning at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin.

The tragic incident took place at Abundant Life Christian School around 11 a.m., according to WMTV-TV.

Initially, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes announced five deaths, including a child, and reported at least seven others injured. However, WMTV later revised the death toll to three.

Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter, a juvenile, was among the deceased, as reported by ABC.

“Today is a sad, sad day,” Barnes said, according to NBC. “Not just for Madison, but for our entire country.”

When asked for clarification, Barnes confirmed, “We believe the shooter was a student at the school, yes,” as cited by CNN.

Notably, the chief stated that no police officers fired any shots during the response, WMTV reported.

A public safety alert was issued at approximately 11:20 a.m., and a nearby resident noted hearing gunshots.

The school, which serves around 390 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, posted a statement on its Facebook page: “Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able.”

The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed. Barnes emphasized, “I’m not going to give any information about who the victims are, whether they’re students, staff, or parents, because we need to make sure that we can notify people,” according to CNN.

Law enforcement agencies from multiple jurisdictions responded to the scene.

Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin expressed his sorrow over the event, writing, “My sincere condolences and prayers for all the victims of the tragedy at Abundant Life Christian School. I will continue to closely monitor the situation,” according to ABC.

Governor Tony Evers also issued a statement: “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
