Developing: Ex-NFL Star Found Dead at 35

Former NFL standout Vontae Davis passed away in a south Florida residence belonging to a relative this past Monday, as per news sources.

The 35-year-old was discovered at the residence of his grandmother, Adaline Davis, located in Southwest Ranches, Florida, according to WSVN.

There was no immediate information regarding the cause of his death. However, according to the report, police indicated that Davis "was found deceased at the home and that no foul play was involved."

The investigation into his death is being conducted by the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Davis, who earned Pro Bowl honors twice, had been out of the NFL since the early part of the 2018 season during his tenure with the Buffalo Bills.

Davis made the unexpected decision to retire during the middle of a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving the field in civilian clothes and informing his coaches that he was finished with professional football.

This decision was met with mixed reactions, with some criticizing him and others raising concerns about his mental well-being.

In an interview with ESPN less than a year later, Davis expressed that he was in a better place, having made a choice that had been on his mind for some time.

"Most people, when I did what I did, they thought I was literally going insane or something," Davis remarked. "But I was actually fine. I was totally fine."

He went on to say, "And I’m totally fine today."

Davis shared that following a standard tackle, he realized something was amiss.

He communicated to his teammates, "I don’t feel right."

After sitting on the bench for a brief period, Davis informed his coaches, "I’m done," and proceeded to the locker room.

There, he sent a message to his wife stating, "Babe I’m done. I’m hanging up my cleats. I don’t want to put my body through this anymore."

That was the last time he stepped onto a football field.

Before his brief time with Buffalo, Davis spent the bulk of his career with the Indianapolis Colts after being drafted in the first round by the Miami Dolphins in 2009, where he remained for three seasons.

Davis concluded his NFL career with notable statistics: 396 tackles, 22 interceptions, four forced fumbles, and a touchdown.

His college career was spent at the University of Illinois for three seasons, leaving before his senior year to join the NFL.
