Distraught John Bolton Calls for FBI Intervention in Trump Nomination Process

For anyone who’s been even mildly tuned into American politics, this latest outburst is predictable, if not entirely exhausting. John Bolton, the textbook neocon and perennial warhawk, is at it again—this time targeting President-elect Donald Trump’s bold Cabinet picks.

Bolton, clearly rattled, appeared on NewsNation to voice his grievances about Trump’s nominations, particularly zeroing in on Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence.

“With [Trump’s] announcement of Tulsi Gabbard to be the director of national intelligence, he’s sending a signal that we’ve lost our mind when it comes to collecting intelligence,” Bolton lamented.

Let’s pause for a moment. The irony here is rich: Bolton, the mustachioed cheerleader for endless wars, is now warning about the dangers of someone with Gabbard’s anti-interventionist record. Mr. Bolton, you might want to sit this one out.

But he didn’t stop there. “Up until a few hours ago, I would have said that [Gabbard] was the worst Cabinet appointment in recent American history,” Bolton claimed. “Since Matt Gaetz’s nomination [as attorney general], he clearly has taken the lead on that score.”

Now, let’s be fair—Gaetz is no saint. But compared to Bolton, a career swamp creature and self-styled architect of foreign entanglements, Gaetz starts to look downright refreshing.

Bolton then doubled down, calling for extreme measures against Trump’s nominees: “I don’t think either [Gabbard] or Matt Gaetz ought to have a confirmation hearing until they have both had full-field FBI investigations,” he said. He specifically accused Gabbard of spreading Russian propaganda, labeling her “a serious threat to our national security” and urging Republican senators to block both nominees.

Here’s the kicker: Bolton throwing around terms like "national security threat" is laughable given his own history. This is the same man whose hawkish policies and questionable judgment have left a trail of costly, unnecessary conflicts in their wake.

And that’s precisely the point. The more figures like Bolton protest Trump’s unconventional choices, the more it underscores why Trump resonates with so many Americans. For years, the electorate has rejected the out-of-touch political elites, Hollywood aristocrats, and yes, professional war enthusiasts like Bolton.

Bolton’s relevance has been waning for a while, but this latest round of hyperventilation puts it in bold print. The fact that he thinks anyone cares about his opinion on the 2024 administration highlights the very reasons Trump’s anti-establishment message continues to thrive.

Whether it’s his flip-flopping on critical issues, his knack for regurgitating partisan talking points, or his role as the poster child for outdated foreign policy, Bolton’s critiques are less an indictment of Trump’s Cabinet and more a reflection of his own irrelevance.

In 2024, Bolton’s opinions belong where his career should have been left long ago: the dustbin of history.
