Doocy Asks KJP How Long Kamala Has Known Admin Is Badly Handling Border
Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy recently questioned White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Vice President Kamala Harris’s stance on President Joe Biden’s handling of the border. He directly asked how long Harris has viewed Biden’s approach as ineffective.
Doocy cited Harris’s recent campaign pledge to increase the number of border agents to curb illegal entry, contrasting this with Biden’s decision in March 2021 to make Harris responsible for addressing migration “root causes” in Mexico and Northern Triangle nations. Harris’s views on immigration enforcement have shifted multiple times over her political career.
“How long have you guys known that Vice President Kamala Harris does not think President Biden is doing a good job at the border?” Doocy asked, with Jean-Pierre asking for clarification. “Well, she’s now promising to hire thousands more border agents than there are now under President Biden,” Doocy continued.
In response, Jean-Pierre pushed back, accusing Republicans, including Donald Trump, of obstructing border funding. “The president does want more Border Patrol agents,” she said. “You know who’s getting in the way? Republicans in Congress...and the former president, Donald Trump. I’m not getting the question because there’s no daylight. The president believes that as well and he’s worked toward doing that.”
Jean-Pierre referenced the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, designed to fund additional Border Patrol agents and immigration judges to streamline the immigration process. The bill also sought to expedite the removal of illegal entrants when the daily crossing rate exceeded 5,000. However, Senate Republicans blocked the bill with a 49-50 vote on February 7, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson declared it “dead on arrival” in the House.
Many of Harris’s campaign ads promote her plans to secure the border. In one July ad, Harris committed to hiring more Border Patrol agents, introducing technology to curb drug trafficking, and increasing funds to combat human trafficking.
While serving as “border czar,” Harris reportedly did not communicate with then-Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott. Scott informed the Daily Caller News Foundation that the administration “redirected millions” from enforcement to permit more illegal entrants and used taxpayer funds to assist NGOs in transporting migrants across the U.S.
NumbersUSA, a group advocating for stricter immigration policies, assigned Harris an “F” rating, citing her support for legislation that they believe weakened border security. Additionally, during her time as a senator, Harris likened ICE to the Ku Klux Klan in 2018 and voiced support in 2020 for allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain health insurance.
