ESPN Host Stephen A Smith Says He Regrets Voting For Harris, Dems
Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, known for addressing politics and current events on his show, has revealed that he regrets voting for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Smith has never been a staunch follower of the Democratic Party, often voicing criticism, including his disapproval of the Department of Justice under President Joe Biden for targeting political opponents.
As the election approached, he also condemned the Harris campaign for using celebrities to inflate crowd sizes at events.
The “First Take” host appeared on Fox News’ Life, Liberty and Levin, where Mark Levin asked if he would consider shifting his support to President-elect Trump.
“Quite possibly. I’m not going to sit up there and dismiss that anymore. I think we’re beyond that. He would have to prove a lot, Mark. And I’m not talking about policy now,” Smith responded.
“What concerned me about Donald Trump and the reason I voted against him and voted for Kamala Harris was because I felt that he would be divisive, that he would create chaos because he demands such a level of loyalty and fealty to him. And that would take priority over governing our nation. That was my concern. And so I’m looking for both sides to work across the aisle from one another,” Smith explained, noting that he aligns with many of the president-elect’s policies on the economy and immigration.
Smith admitted he voted Democrat in the election but expressed regret.
“I voted Democrat, and I got to tell you something right now. I don’t like the fact that I did. I don’t like what I’m seeing,” he shared.
The ESPN commentator voiced concerns about the Democratic Party’s approach, saying it’s too focused on being anti-Trump rather than developing policies.
“Nobody’s above the law. But then you go out and you’re pardoning your son, and you try to blame everybody else for it. I don’t want to hear about defund the police. I don’t want to hear about, you know, that there should be open borders. I don’t want to hear this stuff. And I don’t think most of the American people want to hear that,” Smith said.
Smith has criticized both major political parties before. In August, he rebuked Harris for avoiding discussions about her record.
On his podcast, Smith reiterated his decision to support Harris over Trump, citing concerns about the Republican nominee. However, he commended Trump’s willingness to engage with the media and challenged Harris to do the same if she hoped to win.
“The only damn place we’ve seen Kamala Harris is at pep rallies,” Smith said. “What’s up? Somebody got to say something. And it can’t just be the conservatives; right is right! I’m talking to my sister here, come on now! You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America. You got my vote! You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America. What’re you hiding for?”
Smith encouraged Harris to “stand on” her and President Biden’s record in office and questioned her shifting policy positions on issues like banning fracking and border security. He also expressed interest in asking Harris about her awareness of Biden’s cognitive state, calling these “legitimate questions” for any presidential candidate.
Although Harris had not participated in an interview since becoming the Democratic Party’s 2024 presidential nominee, Smith extended an invitation for a one-on-one interview with her. He also offered the same opportunity to Trump.
“Name the time or place, I’ll come to you,” Smith said.
