Even CNN Can't Ignore Frostiness Between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris: 'We All Know What Happened'

The freezing temperatures outside the Washington National Cathedral paled in comparison to the icy atmosphere inside, as tensions were palpable when the president and vice president crossed paths.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her husband, Doug Emhoff, gathered in Washington, D.C., to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter. The occasion brought together some of the nation’s most prominent figures, many of whom interacted cordially—including a surprisingly friendly exchange between President-elect Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama.

However, such camaraderie was absent between the current first and second couples.

As the New York Post highlighted, the frosty dynamic was so evident that even CNN’s Jake Tapper remarked on it during the network’s live broadcast.

“There’s President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. And I think he has 11 days left as president of the United States,” Tapper commented as footage showed the Bidens taking their seats beside Harris and Emhoff.

“Obviously, an eventful year, one that he did not plan for,” Tapper continued. “Started the year as a would-be Democratic presidential nominee, and we all know what happened after that,” he added, referencing Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race and the subsequent collapse of Harris’s campaign in November.

Tapper noted the apparent chill in their interaction: “Again, you didn’t see a particularly warm greeting between the first couple and the second couple. But again, we are at a funeral, so one has to take that into account when trying to read the body language of the individuals there.”

Still, the footage was telling. Jill Biden took her seat beside Harris without any acknowledgment, and Joe Biden made no effort to greet the vice president.

While one might attribute the cool demeanor to the solemnity of the occasion, this was far from the first instance of such tension.

The strained relations have been evident since Harris’s failed White House ambitions left her even less popular than the president she was expected to succeed. Jill Biden, a close observer of these political dynamics, appeared to reflect that frustration during the frosty exchange at the 47th Annual Kennedy Center Honors ceremony last month.

Social media commentator Mike Sington shared a video of the interaction on X, describing it as part of Joe Biden’s “final appearance” at the event as president.

If there’s a silver lining to this visible animosity, it’s the undeniable exposure of fractures within the Democratic Party. The notion of a “unified and strong” party has been definitively debunked.

With hostilities now on full display, it’s evident that the supposed harmony among the nation’s highest-ranking Democrats was a façade. Reports suggest that Biden’s departure from the 2024 race was orchestrated by party heavyweights like Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, who allegedly pushed Harris into the spotlight in a desperate bid to salvage the election.

Harris’s subsequent failure has only deepened the rift. Meanwhile, the Bidens and Harris continue to air their grievances publicly, overshadowing other pressing matters.

As Obama exchanges pleasantries with Trump—who seems keenly aware of the real power dynamics—and Pelosi continues to assert her influence, the internal discord leaves little doubt: Harris and the Bidens have been sidelined by their party’s machinery, left to squabble as the true power brokers move forward.
