Ex-DOJ Attorney Investigating CIA and Russian Fraud Found Dead at 43

Jessica Aber, a former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was discovered deceased on Saturday morning. She was 43.

Aber, who was appointed by former President Joe Biden and left office on Jan. 20, was found by officers from the Alexandria Police Department responding to a report of an “unresponsive woman.”

Authorities confirmed that “[o]fficers located a deceased woman” and, after informing her family, publicly identified the individual as Aber.

“As a matter of protocol, an investigation is underway surrounding the circumstances of her death,” the department stated. “The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia will determine the cause and manner of death.”

Aber began her tenure as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia in 2009, according to WRC-TV.

Her career also included serving as counsel to the assistant attorney general for the Justice Department’s Criminal Division from 2015 to 2016 and later working as deputy chief of the Eastern District of Virginia’s criminal division.

According to the New York Post, she played a key role in several high-profile cases before stepping down earlier this year.

One of her most notable prosecutions involved Asif Rahman, a former CIA analyst who admitted to leaking highly classified details regarding Israeli military plans for Iran.

Aber condemned his actions, emphasizing that his conduct represented a “violation of his oath, his responsibility, and the law,” adding that he had “placed lives at risk, undermined U.S. foreign relations, and compromised our ability to collect vital intelligence in the future.”

She also prosecuted Eleview International Inc., a Virginia-based firm whose two leaders were accused of orchestrating “three different schemes to illegally transship sensitive American technology to Russia.”

Virginia’s Republican Attorney General, Jason Miyares, shared his sympathies with Aber’s loved ones.

“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Jessica Aber, whose career of public service included US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia and whose work with Ceasefire Virginia saved more lives than we may ever realize,” Miyares stated.

“Our thoughts and our prayers are with her family this week.”

Erik Seibert, the current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, described Aber as “unmatched as a leader, mentor, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being.”

“We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all too brief time in this world. Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard,” Seibert said.

“Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard.”
