FBI Agent Didn't Know He Was Supposed to Lie, So He Confirmed Biden Laptop Was Real on Call with Twitter: Report
As the 2024 election approaches, a wave of "now the truth can be told" stories has surfaced regarding the final days of President Joe Biden’s administration. However, these revelations aren’t limited to the present—there are now exposés shedding light on what happened leading up to the 2020 election as well.
Given the Biden administration’s persistent efforts to shield the Washington establishment and invoke the events of Jan. 6, 2021, as an ever-present deflection, it’s not entirely unexpected that such reports are emerging. But thanks to an investigation by independent journalists Catherine Herridge and Michael Shellenberger, a clearer picture of the FBI’s handling of Hunter Biden’s laptop in relation to social media censorship has come to light—and, as expected, it’s as troubling as anticipated.
The report confirms that federal investigators did, in fact, inform Twitter about the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop before the platform suppressed a New York Post article detailing its controversial contents.
This occurred in the closing days of the 2020 election, and although restrictions on sharing information about the laptop’s contents were eventually relaxed, the damage had already been done. The report further reveals that the FBI later adopted a strategy of omission, avoiding direct confirmation of the laptop’s legitimacy.
According to the Herridge/Shellenberger report:
In 2024, a senior FBI official disclosed to congressional investigators that an agency employee had unintentionally confirmed the laptop’s authenticity to Twitter during a conference call on October 14, 2020—the same day the New York Post published its bombshell report.
“I recall that when the question came up, an intelligence analyst assigned to the Criminal Investigative Division said something to the effect of, ‘Yes, the laptop is real’,” testified the then-Russia Unit Chief of the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force during a private transcribed interview.
“I believe it was an (Office of General Counsel) attorney assigned to the (Foreign Influence Task Force) [who] stepped in and said, ‘We will not comment further on this topic.’”
Now, with the GOP in control of Congress and the White House, internal FBI communications have been released, showing that “internal chat messages that show Bureau leadership actively silenced its employees.”
These heavily redacted messages reveal that Elvis M. Chan, a San Francisco-based FBI special agent responsible for liaising with social media companies, was informed that a “gag order” had been placed on discussing the laptop.
In another message, Chan was directed to respond with “official response no commen(t).” The justification given for this restriction was that there was evidence of criminality linked to the laptop.
Chan inquired, “actually what kind of case is the laptop thing? corruption? campaign financing?”
A redacted response began with “CLOSE HOLD —,” followed by significant portions of blacked-out text.
Chan’s response: “oh crap … ok. It ends here.”
Another FBI employee further instructed, “please do not discuss biden matter,” as per the report.
The FBI said it didn't interfere in the 2020 election, but it did. It tricked Twitter & Facebook into censoring the Hunter Biden laptop story. As Herridge pointed out, the FBI had a dedicated task force to counter foreign election interference and could have clarified the truth by confirming that the laptop was real and part of an active criminal investigation. Instead, bureau leadership allowed misinformation about the laptop to flourish unchecked.

While earlier reports from the New York Post in 2023 indicated that Twitter had been informed of the laptop’s authenticity on the day of the article’s publication, this newly released evidence marks the first time it has been confirmed that an FBI employee initially spoke the truth—only for higher-ups to immediately shut it down.
Additionally, officials instructed others to maintain the deception, and their representative to social media platforms followed orders by refusing to provide clarification, even though the laptop’s contents were publicly available.
At the time, the dominant narrative was that the laptop’s contents were fabricated. The Biden campaign successfully enlisted numerous intelligence officials to sign a letter reinforcing this claim, with no one stepping in to correct the record. The impact of this false narrative extended well beyond the period of social media restrictions, effectively stifling discussions about the laptop even after those limitations were lifted.
Ultimately, when these "now the story can be told" revelations emerge, what they truly signify is, "OK, now I guess we can stop lying to you." This underscores why the entrenched bureaucracy in Washington must be dismantled swiftly and prevented from regaining its grip. With Kash Patel now leading the FBI, it is imperative to unredact these messages and uncover the full extent of this troubling cover-up.
