First Transgender Elected to Congress Gets Lesson from Subcommittee Chair: 'It Is the Policy of the United States...'

Few things in life are as freeing as speaking the truth, and sometimes that truth comes with unexpected consequences.

For example, Democrats often react to reality as if they were vampires exposed to sunlight—panicked and enraged.

In a video posted Tuesday on X, Republican Rep. Keith Self of Texas, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Europe Subcommittee, ignited a dramatic response from a Democrat colleague when he referred to transgender Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride of Delaware as “Mr. McBride.” Later, Self clarified on X that “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.”

“The representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” Self stated at the start of the clip.

McBride, a biological male who previously went by the name Tim, responded sharply.

“Thank you, Madam Chair,” he retorted with obvious sarcasm.

At this point, Democratic Rep. Bill Keating of Massachusetts, the committee’s ranking member, launched into a theatrical display of outrage. With misplaced gallantry, he attempted to chastise Self as if defending McBride’s dignity.

“Mr. Chairman, could you repeat your introduction again?” Keating asked.

Self, though slightly hesitant, repeated his words, prompting Keating to erupt.

“Mr. Chairman, you are out of order!” Keating shouted. “Mr. Chairman, have you no decency? I mean, I have come to know you a little bit but this is not decent.”

Self, unfazed, attempted to move forward. “We will continue this hearing,” he stated.

Keating, however, was not finished. “You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way!” he roared, even pounding his fist for emphasis.

In response, Self brought down the gavel and adjourned the hearing.

McBride, on the other hand, chose not to escalate the situation. Given Keating’s exaggerated reaction, there was no need. Instead, the Delaware representative took a more composed approach, fully aware that left-wing activists view him as a symbol of so-called civil rights.

“No matter how I’m treated by some colleagues, nothing diminishes my awe and gratitude at getting to represent Delaware in Congress. It is truly the honor and privilege of a lifetime. I simply want to serve and to try to make this world a better place,” McBride posted on X.

No one wishes McBride harm. But facts remain facts, and no amount of titles, clothing, or pronoun changes can alter biological reality.

Furthermore, Keating’s furious reaction highlights an unsettling reality about today’s Democratic Party.

Take last week, for example, during President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress. Elected Democrats refused to stand or acknowledge an American freed from a Russian prison, the grieving families of two American women raped and murdered by illegal immigrants, or a young cancer survivor with dreams of a career in law enforcement.

Yet they will erupt in outrage if someone “misgenders” a man identifying as a woman. That is their priority. So aside from voting them out, all we can really do is shake our heads and laugh.

Credit to Self for standing by the truth, even when surrounded by self-important ideologues who unwittingly provide comic relief.
