Former GOP Lawmaker Devin Nunes Applauds Kash Patel
Devin Nunes, former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and a Republican from California, praised President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Kash Patel, a national security expert, to lead the FBI. Nunes shared his thoughts during a conversation with Fox News host Mark Levin last week.
Nunes, who now serves as the CEO of Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform, emphasized that Patel has a clear understanding of how the FBI and the broader Department of Justice, under which the bureau operates, have been “politicized and corrupted” in recent years.
“Kash Patel is a reformer who will do things at the FBI that the entrenched ruling class does not want him to do,” Levin remarked, before inviting Nunes to elaborate.
“Yes, and most importantly, he knows how they do it. He knows how the DOJ and how the FBI corrupted the whole damn place. That’s the advantage he has, and that’s why they don’t want him in there,” Nunes responded.
Nunes continued, adding: “This brings an important component that I don’t think we’ve seen in an FBI director before. Kash started his career on the other side—as a public defender—defending criminals against the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.”
He explained, “From being a public defender, he transitioned into the DOJ as a prosecutor. At a time when we need people who understand both sides of the issues, Kash’s experience is invaluable. If we’re going to restore the FBI and the Department of Justice to their intended purpose—where justice is truly blind, as envisioned by the founders of this country—someone like Kash is essential.”
Nunes stressed, “Without a solid, reliable justice system, the entire country can fall apart. And honestly, if President Trump hadn’t won, the nation was on the brink of collapse. It began with the Russia hoax—a baseless campaign ploy aimed at falsely accusing Trump and the Republicans of collusion with Russia.”
He elaborated further: “We’ve seen them target Supreme Court justices, Catholics, and, of course, President Trump himself. They raided Mar-a-Lago, repeatedly targeted Republicans, and have yet to drop the Russia hoax. Add to that their interference in the 2020 election, like the hoax involving the ’51 spies who lie’ claiming Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. This corruption must be permanently eradicated.”

Meanwhile, Texas Senator John Cornyn, a leading moderate in the GOP, voiced his “confidence” that Patel will be confirmed as the new FBI director. His remarks came shortly before Christopher Wray, the current FBI director, announced he would step down ahead of Trump’s inauguration, following Trump’s public declaration that Patel was his nominee.
“People I know and trust speak highly of him, and I’m looking forward to meeting with him,” Cornyn told radio host Hugh Hewitt. When asked whether Patel would secure Senate confirmation, Cornyn confidently responded, “Yes, he will be.”
He also noted that Pam Bondi, Trump’s choice for Attorney General, had expressed her support for Patel, further solidifying confidence in his appointment.
