Fox News Announces New Chapter for Long-Time Host Dana Perino

Fox News has revealed a significant career change for long-time host and former George W. Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino.

According to the network, the co-anchor of “America’s Newsroom” and co-host of “The Five” has launched her own weekly podcast.

“FOX News Audio’s ‘Perino on Politics,’ which launched the same week Fox News Channel will host the first GOP presidential primary debate, will examine the 2024 election and beyond,” the report said.

Perino will be engaging with highly knowledgeable individuals from both inside and outside Washington, D.C. The lineup will include experts such as columnists, advisors, pollsters, and political strategists, who will collectively explore the latest developments along the campaign trail, leading up to what is seen as a pivotal election, Fox noted.

The show’s inaugural guests featured strategist Colin Reed and National Review’s senior political correspondent, Jim Geraghty, the report added.

“Perino joined Fox News Channel in 2009 following her tenure as White House Press Secretary in President George W. Bush’s administration. She has since played a key role in Fox News’ election coverage,” Fox reported, adding:

Perino’s “America’s Newsroom,” which she co-anchors with Bill Hemmer, regularly tops cable news ratings in its timeslot. “The Five,” co-hosted by Perino alongside Greg Gutfeld, Jesse Watters, and Jeanine Pirro, is the most-watched show on cable news despite airing well before primetime hours that traditionally dominate ratings.

“The Five,” which has held the No. 1 spot in cable news for seven consecutive quarters, averaged 2.6 million viewers and 254,000 in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic in July, continuing its unprecedented run.

Another Fox News personality also recently experienced a career change.

Tyrus has announced his retirement from his primary profession as a professional wrestler.

Tyrus, whose real name is George Murdoch, told SLAM Wrestling in an “exit” interview that the former National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) champion was ready to hang up his boots after a 15-year career, culminating in a “Tyrus Must Retire” Bull Rope Match loss to Ethan Carter III—EC3—at the NWA’s 75th-anniversary show in St. Louis on August 27.

“I’m good,” he told SlamWrestling.net from his New York City office two days after the match. “We beat the hell out of each other. Everything is in slow motion.”

At 50, the now-former pro wrestler said the retirement match was his idea after discussions with his children, who wanted “daddy to be home more often” so he could attend their sporting events and take them fishing. “It was all my idea,” he said.

SLAM Wrestling added:

When Tyrus’s first book–Just Tyrus: A Memoir–was released, he intended to wrestle for a year and a half or more. Just over a year later, his success, largely due to the book and his television role as a commentator on Gutfeld!, accelerated his timeline. During his 289-day reign as the NWA’s Heavyweight Champion, Tyrus often carried “Sweet Charlotte” on his shoulder during daily talk show broadcasts, and before that, he displayed the NWA TV Championship on his shoulder.

Tyrus won the championship from Trevor Murdoch and Matt Cardona in a Triple Threat Match on November 12, 2022, a match he described as “a thrill.” He successfully defended the title four times and participated in several tag team matches during his reign.

“The NWA is exploding,” he told the outlet. “So, EC3 will be defending all over. I feel he has been overlooked a lot. Me and him, just seemed right.”

The six-foot-eight-inch Tyrus mentioned that he has another book coming out soon and a third in the pipeline. He also noted that his “duties here at FOX are growing,” and he has been in talks with moviemakers about film projects once the writer’s strike is over.
