Fox News Caves to Hunter Biden
Fox News has decided to remove a special from its streaming platform regarding the legal issues surrounding Hunter Biden after facing threats from his legal team.
The program, titled "The Trial of Hunter Biden," was taken down from Fox Nation, as confirmed by the network in a statement to Deadline. A representative of the company mentioned that the program had been available since 2022 but has been removed temporarily while they review the concerns raised.
"The Trial of Hunter Biden" disappeared from Fox Nation's offerings by Wednesday morning.
The series had promised a "riveting look at the unresolved legal situation of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter," featuring a "mock trial" where Hunter Biden was depicted as a criminal defendant.
Hunter Biden's attorneys had announced their intention to sue Fox News for defamation, citing the airing of blurred photos of him, which they argued violated "revenge porn" laws. In a letter obtained by CNN, Hunter Biden's legal team accused Fox of using hacked or stolen digital material.
Fox News initially defended its coverage as protected speech, noting that Hunter Biden is a public figure who has been the subject of investigations and indictments. However, Hunter Biden's legal team demanded retractions regarding reporting on a former FBI asset's claims about Biden family corruption in Ukraine. This asset, Alexander Smirnov, was charged with making false statements by the Justice Department but has maintained his innocence.
The situation reflects ongoing tensions between the Biden family and conservative media outlets, with legal threats and accusations of defamation being exchanged.
