Fox News Personality Floats Potential Trump Administration Role: Hannity for FCC?

Fox News host Jesse Watters joked on air about former President Donald Trump appointing his fellow Fox News anchor Sean Hannity to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) if Trump were to win the election. Watters suggested that Hannity, in such a role, could “knock heads together” and “yank licenses” from certain cable networks.

Trump has recently escalated his criticism of traditional news outlets, responding to what he calls misleading or exaggerated stories, manipulated debate coverage, and selective editing that he believes has unfairly benefited Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump has even proposed that broadcasting licenses shouldn't be free and might be revoked if news outlets continue to deceive the public.

Watters put forward his own idea, suggesting that Trump could shake up the FCC if he returns to office by enlisting Hannity in a leadership role.

Co-host Greg Gutfeld, meanwhile, took a jab at Comedy Central’s Saturday Night Live, which he labeled “comedy welfare for the Democratic candidate.” Gutfeld’s comment came after the show’s recent segment featuring Vice President Kamala Harris.

Watters also shared his frustration with SNL, referencing FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr’s critique of the show for allegedly violating the “equal time” rule. This rule requires broadcasters to offer equal airtime to political candidates to prevent election bias.

“[Harris] should’ve done [Joe] Rogan, and she did this instead, and that tells you everything about the Harris campaign,” Watters commented on The Five. “The symbolism of breaking the law to hurt Trump shows what they’ve done and what they’re likely to do if he wins,” he added.

According to Watters, “They should’ve invited Donald Trump. It would’ve been funnier, would’ve gotten better ratings, but they’re willing to sacrifice their mission—laughter and profits—to hurt Trump.”

He continued, “It’s too late to change anyone’s mind now, but this demonstrates that Trump is fighting through a rigged system—whether it’s 60 Minutes, biased debate moderators, or anything like that. And when he wins, it’ll be that much sweeter.”

Watters also referenced an interview with journalist Glenn Greenwald, who claimed that some mainstream media insiders see the media as actually leaning pro-Trump. “These are the types of people we’re dealing with,” Watters said.

"So when Trump says we might need to yank licenses, it’s because these people are political operatives, not journalists. If Donald Trump wins, I expect he’d appoint someone strong at the FCC, like Hannity, to knock heads together and pull licenses,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, in a recent MSNBC appearance, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a long-serving California Democrat, raised concerns about Trump’s cognitive abilities just days before election day.

In a conversation with MSNBC host and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Pelosi attempted to compare Trump’s mental sharpness to what she perceives as a similar decline in President Joe Biden. Pelosi also suggested that supporting Trump is akin to backing “horrible” Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s vice-presidential pick.

During her interview, however, Pelosi appeared to struggle with her own answers, noting, “I think what the ex-president just said is further indication of his cognitive degeneration.” She continued, “You saw recently how he was talking about whether he chose electrocution or being eaten by sharks. Something is very wrong there,” she stated, attributing this as a reason for Trump’s criticism of the media, which polls indicate has reached a historic low in public trust.
