Fox’s Peter Doocy Says Biden Never Fulfilled Personal Promise
Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy recently revealed that President Joe Biden broke a promise to him, one that now appears unlikely to be fulfilled as Biden prepares to leave the White House.
During a Friday segment on "Fox & Friends," Doocy revisited a moment from January 2022 when Biden called him a "stupid son of a bi*ch" during a press conference. The remark came in response to Doocy's question about whether inflation could become a political liability for Democrats.
“I feel like I can say this now because it never happened,” Doocy said, referring to Biden's promise of a lunch meeting to smooth things over. “He called me, and initially he told me, ‘It’s nothing personal, pal,’ that he said a bad word. He also said that this was at the tail-end of COVID, and he said he would have me in for lunch when it was safe. Well, I think his lunch card is probably filled—it never happened. So, it was never safe to have lunch with me.”
Doocy’s father, "Fox & Friends" co-host Steve Doocy, chimed in, noting that his son had brought up the promised lunch to then-White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on her final day in office, even snapping a photo with her.
Peter Doocy lamented, “The lunch never happened. I’ve told many people about the lunch, but the lunch never happened. I did not pack a lunch today—Fridays, I’m usually out of leftovers—so we’re out here.”
After the 2022 incident, Doocy said on Sean Hannity's show that Biden had called to apologize. "He did clear the air, and I appreciate it," Doocy recounted at the time. “We had a nice call … I told him that I appreciated him reaching out. The world is on the brink of, like, World War III. With all the stuff going on, I appreciate that the president took a couple minutes out this evening while he was still at the desk to give me a call and clear the air. But I don’t need anybody to apologize to me.”
As Biden’s tenure concludes, Doocy reflected on their dynamic. In an interview with New York Magazine, Doocy spoke about his years covering the Biden administration, including his contentious but memorable exchanges with the president during press briefings.
When asked if he would miss Biden, Doocy replied, “Yes. I really will. I don’t think it took long for them to know exactly what to expect from me. They knew I was always going to ask him something hard, and he continued to engage for years after that, and his team did too. So yes, I will miss him.”
Reflecting on Biden’s role at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Doocy shared a personal observation: “When I saw him looking out at all of this, it seemed like he was thinking, ‘Am I doing the right thing?’”
As the president prepares to hand over the reins, Doocy acknowledged the unique relationship he built with Biden over the years, one marked by sharp exchanges but also mutual engagement.
