Frustrated Time Magazine Owner Criticizes Harris, Questions Her Ability to Meet Past Presidential Nominee Standards
Time magazine’s owner, Marc Benioff, recently expressed frustration with Vice President Kamala Harris for avoiding an interview with the publication.
"Despite multiple requests, TIME has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris — unlike every other Presidential candidate. We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full. Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level?” Benioff posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
Time previously conducted interviews with former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden during his re-election campaign, publishing the transcripts with only minor edits.
While Time did release a largely favorable profile on Harris and her policies, it seems that direct access has been limited.
“When she does do interviews, she mostly favors local media, culture podcasts, or friendly talk shows,” said Charlotte Alter, the writer of the piece, to the New York Post. She also mentioned that Harris declined to speak with her for the article.
The New York Post’s editorial board pointed out that, from Harris' campaign's perspective, limiting media appearances might be a strategic decision.
"Harris’ handlers have largely restricted her to rallies with teleprompters and crowds of supporters or sitdowns with friendly alt-media types who tee up easy questions with few follow-ups,” the editorial stated.
“No wonder,” the editorial continued. “Every time she goes off-script or is pressed just a bit, she offers up complete gibberish, like her Monday ramble about ‘constellations’ in response to Black Star Network host Roland Martin’s question on crime.”
In a separate New York Post column, Adam B. Coleman weighed in, stating, "Kamala Harris’ greatest enemy is herself, and her most notable weakness is her inability to convey sincerity in her messaging to the public."
He also highlighted that her “authenticity handicap” has contributed to declining polling data with black voters, a demographic traditionally supportive of the Democratic Party. Coleman pointed out a recent interview Harris did with Charlamagne tha God, in which she failed to go beyond “buzzwords and scripted talking points.”
"Far too frequently, black voters have watched Democratic politicians of all colors utilize urban media to say the buzzwords and catchphrases that gain our attention and then disappear for four years without keeping their word," Coleman continued.
He added, “Because of this phenomenon, black voters have grown skeptical of who stands before them claiming to have their best interest in mind. Harris faces an uphill battle to regain black voters who are at minimum skeptical because she exudes inauthenticity and everything about her appears to be performative.”
Harris did sit down for an interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes,” but that appearance was criticized, as CBS edited what was referred to as a “word salad” response regarding her stance on Israel.
