Harris Draws New Criticism After Cutting Trump From Carter Funeral Photo

It appears Vice President Kamala Harris may still harbor resentment over her historic defeat by President-elect Donald Trump.

Harris has sparked significant controversy across social media and even mainstream outlets like CNN after posting a photo from the funeral of the late President Jimmy Carter.

The funeral, held last week, was attended by a gathering of five current and former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump — alongside former vice presidents Al Gore and Mike Pence. However, Harris’ social media post conspicuously excluded Trump from the image.

The photo she shared showed the current and former presidents standing with their hands over their hearts. Former President Bush, a Republican, was partially obscured in the foreground by Doug Emhoff, Harris’ husband, who stood beside her in the front pew.

“President Jimmy Carter loved our country,” Harris captioned the post. “He lived his faith, served the people, and left the world better than he found it.”

This apparent omission of Trump ignited immediate backlash online.

“Kamala, you are a petty POS. You cropped out President Trump and his family. All because you were not able to steal another election from him. You will always be known as the DEI pick who slept your way to the top of the illegitimate Biden regime. Signed, The American People,” wrote Derrick Evans, a former West Virginia House member and Jan. 6 defendant.

“Trying to erase history once again. Did you know Melania was there on the one-year anniversary of her own mother’s funeral? Your moral character and that of those surrounding you in the picture is well shown. President Trump and Melania shouldn’t be in the picture with you. Once again, a petty tactic backfires. Pure evil is like that,” another commenter added.

“Worst VP in history,” another user bluntly stated.

It’s worth noting that Harris isn’t alone in this apparent pettiness as Trump’s inauguration day approaches.

ABC News reported that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California declined an invitation to attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on Monday. Similarly, former First Lady Michelle Obama will also skip the event.

A statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama confirmed, “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration.”

In contrast, a spokesperson for former President George W. Bush confirmed that he and former First Lady Laura Bush plan to attend the Capitol ceremonies. However, Michelle Obama also did not appear at the funeral services for Jimmy Carter last week, where the other living former presidents and first ladies were present.

Michelle Obama has historically attended every inauguration since 2008, including Trump’s first inauguration in 2017. Reflecting on that experience, she later shared her discomfort.

“To sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display, there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage,” Obama stated in 2023. “There was no reflection of the broader sense of America. Many people took pictures of me and they’re like, you weren’t in a good mood. No, I was not.”
