House Democrats Flock To Support GOP Immigrant Crime Bill

It appears that some Democrats have acknowledged voter concerns regarding illegal immigration.

A surprising 60 Democrats joined Republicans to pass legislation in the House, introduced by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, titled the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act.

The bill was approved with a 274-145 vote, with more than a quarter of the minority party supporting it.

“We are fed up with headlines about women losing their lives or becoming victims of assailants who trespassed into our country illegally under the Biden-Harris border crisis,” said Rep. Mace. “This legislation sends a strong message: if you are an illegal who has committed acts of violence against women, you will not find sanctuary here.”

However, 158 Democrats opposed the legislation, arguing that it unfairly targeted illegal immigrants.

“Here we are again, debating another partisan bill that fearmongers about immigrants instead of working together to fix the immigration system,” said Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) during the debate. “I probably shouldn’t be too surprised. Scapegoating immigrants and attempting to weaponize the crime of domestic violence is appearing to be a time-honored tradition for Republicans.”

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) also criticized the bill, claiming that Republicans were “scapegoating and fearmongering about immigrants.” He added, “The redundancies in this bill all but assure that no additional dangerous individuals would face immigration consequences if it were to become law.”

Despite these criticisms, Mace remained steadfast.

“Our country has been ravaged by a horror of illegal immigrants violently raping American women and girls,” she said. “I know the lifelong scars, the irreversible scars, these heinous crimes leave behind.”

In December, Mace reported an incident in which an Illinois man allegedly attacked her on the U.S. Capitol grounds due to her stance on prohibiting trans-identifying men from using women’s spaces.

“I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women,” she wrote in a post on X. “Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!”

Mace has been vocal about her efforts to prevent trans-identifying men from using women’s restrooms, particularly within the United States Capitol and on all federal property.

“There’s no amount of bullying and threats on my life that they’ve made this week that’s going to stop me from this,” said Mace, who has shared her experiences as a victim of rape, domestic violence, and abuse. She promised in late November to “fight like hell” for the protection of women and girls.

The Capitol Police confirmed to The Daily Wire that they arrested 33-year-old James McIntyre for allegedly assaulting a U.S. Congressmember. McIntyre now faces charges of assaulting a government official.

“Just before 6:00 p.m., the Member of Congress’ office reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building,” the Capitol Police told The Daily Wire. “House Division officers, and agents with the Threat Assessment Section, tracked down the suspect.”

McIntyre reportedly passed through security screening before entering the congressional buildings, where the incident took place. The Capitol Police stated that “the Rayburn House Office Building was open to the public at the time of the incident.”

Last month, Mace introduced a resolution to prohibit individuals born as men from entering and using women-only facilities. This measure comes as the country’s first transgender representative-elect, Sarah McBride (D-Del.), prepares to take office in January.

“If being a feminist makes me an extremist, I’m totally here for it,” Mace said in response to a reporter’s question after introducing her measure.
