Huge Update: Black Hawk Pilots Grounded After Rotor Washing Helene Volunteers' Aid Cache

A Black Hawk helicopter crew from the North Carolina National Guard has been grounded following an incident where their helicopter disrupted a Hurricane Helene relief station in Burnsville, North Carolina. The incident took place on Sunday in a parking lot where aid for storm victims was being organized.

Multiple videos show the all-black UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter circling the area and hovering low, which caused tents and other relief materials to scatter due to the powerful rotor wash. Eyewitnesses described the helicopter as "unmarked," and some speculated about black SUVs arriving and leaving shortly before the helicopter's appearance, adding a layer of conspiracy to the event.

In response, the North Carolina National Guard (NCNG) confirmed that it was their helicopter and crew involved in the disruption. According to a statement posted on Facebook, the helicopter was delivering generators requested by a local civilian organization to power their distribution outpost. The NCNG explained that when the crew attempted to land, the helicopter's rotor wash caused items at the relief site to be blown away. Recognizing the situation, the crew immediately aborted the landing and departed for safety reasons.

The NCNG has grounded the crew involved in the incident pending an investigation. They are also working with the local civilian organization to assess the damage caused by the helicopter’s rotor wash. While the extent of the damage remains unclear, videos of the chaotic scene have gone viral, amassing millions of views.

In their statement, the NCNG emphasized that safety is their top priority, particularly with the heightened air operations following the hurricane. They acknowledged that while they strive for precision in their missions, unexpected issues can arise, and they are committed to addressing and preventing similar occurrences in the future.

Fortunately, no injuries or significant property damage have been reported as a result of the incident.
