Illegal Crossing Down 95 Percent from Biden High, Trump Says Still Not Good Enough

President Donald Trump has overseen a dramatic 95 percent drop in illegal border crossings within the first days of his administration. However, in his view, the progress made so far is still not enough.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin reported on Monday that only 582 illegal crossings were recorded across the entire southern border on Sunday, highlighting that the numbers have been “falling off a cliff since Trump took office.”

Data from Border Patrol showed that on Friday, there were 665 illegal crossings, while Saturday saw 731.

Melugin commented, “I’ve never seen anything this low in all of my border coverage.”

He reminded audiences that, at the “height of the border crisis” in December 2023, the number of illegal crossings in a single day exceeded 11,000.

Comparing those figures to the present, illegal crossings have declined by 95 percent—an extraordinary shift within just the first week of Trump’s presidency.

At the peak of the crisis in late 2023, the Del Rio sector in Texas alone saw over 4,000 illegal crossings in a single day.

By contrast, of the 582 total crossings recorded on Sunday, only 60 took place in the Del Rio sector.

Melugin also pointed out that “there are no longer 1,500+ migrants being released at ports of entry via the CBP One cell phone app every single day, as Trump immediately terminated the program.”

One might assume that Trump would be celebrating these numbers.

Yet, he appears to be doing the opposite.

According to The Washington Post, Trump officials have instructed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to ramp up daily arrests of criminal illegal aliens.

The report indicates that Trump was “disappointed” with the arrest numbers, which stood at only a few hundred per day. As a result, the administration established a new target of between 1,200 and 1,500 daily arrests.

Each ICE field office has been directed to conduct 75 arrests per day, with ICE managers held responsible for meeting these quotas, per the Post.

This marks a stark contrast to the leadership of former President Joe Biden.

Beyond the clear difference in immigration enforcement, there is also a fundamental shift toward prioritizing efficiency, accountability, and results.

Biden and his administration often appeared more focused on optics than on delivering measurable outcomes for the American people. They touted minor, short-term economic improvements—such as small monthly declines in inflation—while downplaying the overall rise in prices throughout his presidency, as well as fluctuations in gas prices.

Trump, on the other hand, seems intent on achieving concrete results—ones that leave no room for doubt that he is fulfilling his responsibilities and making the country safer as a whole.
