Illegal Immigrant Jose Ibarra Found Guilty On All Charges
Illegal immigrant Jose Ibarra has been convicted on all 10 charges in the murder case of nursing student Laken Riley, 22.
Ibarra, who opted for a bench trial instead of a jury, was accused of killing Riley while she was jogging on the University of Georgia campus on February 22.
“The trial began Friday, and prosecutors called more than a dozen law enforcement officers, Riley’s roommates, and a woman who lived in the same apartment as Ibarra. Defense attorneys called a police officer, a jogger, and one of Ibarra’s neighbors on Tuesday and rested their case Wednesday morning,” reported the Associated Press.
Prosecutor Sheila Ross outlined the case, asserting that Ibarra encountered Riley during her run and killed her during a struggle. Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student at Augusta University’s College of Nursing, was attending the institution’s Athens campus, located about 70 miles east of Atlanta.
Earlier this year, former President Donald Trump extended his condolences to Riley’s grieving family in a way President Joe Biden had not. During a rally in Georgia, Trump met Riley’s family backstage and shared an emotional moment captured in a widely circulated photo of him hugging her mother.
“I met her beautiful mother and family backstage,” Trump told the crowd in Rome, Georgia. “They said she was like the best. She was always the best to us. They admit that she was the best, and she was the first in her class. She was going to be the best nurse. She was the best nursing student. She was always the best. She was the brightest light in every room, they told me.”
He continued, “She was the whole world to her parents and her sister and just to the whole family.”
Trump criticized Biden’s border policies, blaming them for enabling Ibarra’s presence in the U.S. “Biden has implemented a formal policy that illegal aliens who intrude into the United States are granted immunity from deportation,” Trump said. “Thus, when this monster showed up at our border, he was set free immediately under the program that crooked Joe created.”
Trump expressed being “profoundly honored” to have Riley’s family and friends attend the rally.
“They’re so incredible,” he said. “The hearts of hundreds of thousands and indeed millions and millions of Americans and people worldwide, they’re shattered alongside your beautiful hearts. We share your grief. Thank you, darling. Thank you. Thank you very much. We appreciate it.”
Last week, Trump revealed he had reached out to Riley’s parents.
Speaking at the border, Trump reiterated his condemnation of Biden’s immigration policies, saying, “The parents are devastated, and they’re incredible people. … This is a Joe Biden invasion. A Biden invasion. I call him crooked Joe … the most incompetent president we’ve ever had.”
Trump contrasted Biden’s response with his own, accusing the president of failing to properly acknowledge Riley’s death. “He never mentioned her name,” Trump said. “I’m not going to forget her.”
Trump described the attack as “barbaric,” recounting how Riley was “brutally assaulted, horrifically beaten, kidnapped, and savagely murdered” while jogging.
“She was an incredible young lady,” he said. “She was so beautiful in so many ways.”
Biden eventually mentioned Riley during his State of the Union address, but only after public pressure. However, he mispronounced her name, referring to her as “Lincoln Riley,” a name associated with the USC football coach.
When Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene interrupted Biden, shouting, “What about Laken Riley? Say her name!” Biden awkwardly corrected himself, holding up a pin with Riley’s name but still stumbling over it.
“To her parents, I say: My heart goes out to you. Having lost children myself, I understand,” Biden said.
Riley’s mother, Allyson Phillips, expressed her outrage on Facebook: “Biden does not even KNOW my child’s name – it’s pathetic! If you are going to say her name (even when forced to do so), at least say the right name!”
The gaffe drew criticism from various public figures. Clay Travis remarked, “Joe Biden just confused Laken Riley, a college student killed by an illegal immigrant, with USC football coach Lincoln Riley. This just happened. The man’s brain is mush. Incredibly disrespectful.”
Actor James Woods tweeted, “‘Lincoln’ Riley? Just appalling.”
The Heritage Foundation added, “It’s Laken Riley, Mr. President, and she would be alive if it weren’t for your open border policies.”
