Indiana Man Arrested for Threatening to 'Gut' Elon Musk - Loses Rifle, Pistol, Ballistic Vest

Leftists Must Have Felt Torn When David Cherry Was Taken Into Custody
David Cherry, a 28-year-old from Palmyra, Indiana, is now staring down multiple charges after allegedly threatening to "gut" Elon Musk and "parade" the tech mogul’s "corpse through the streets." This comes from a Monday report published by Law and Crime.
Indiana State Police revealed in a Facebook post last week that their investigators seized "an AR-15-style rifle, a handgun, ammunition, and a ballistic vest" from Cherry’s residence following their discovery of several threats of this nature.
This situation likely leaves anti-Second Amendment activists feeling conflicted.
On the one hand, they’ll be glad to see yet another legal gun owner at risk of permanently losing his right to own firearms. But on the other, they undoubtedly relate to Cherry’s intense hostility toward Musk.
The left has been absolutely livid ever since President Donald Trump tapped the SpaceX and Tesla CEO to spearhead the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency — a department tasked with cutting government waste and eliminating redundant agencies.
Because of this, Musk has quickly risen to the top of the left’s enemy list, and far-left media figures, such as Joy Behar, haven’t hesitated to spread their fury. The venom they spit undoubtedly helps poison the minds of unstable people like Cherry.
During Thursday’s episode of The View, Behar went on a tirade, saying, "I think this is just perfectly wonderful for Trump. He can take a nap and let this foreigner, foreign agent, you know, an enemy of the United States, do his job." She also repeated the false claim that Musk was "pro-apartheid."
As if that wasn’t enough, certain politicians have jumped on the anti-Musk bandwagon, with some hinting that Musk harbors Nazi sympathies while others simply curse his name every chance they get.
You would think these people might reflect after years of nonstop attacks nearly led to Trump’s assassination.
Instead, they just keep up the attacks — not only on Trump but on anyone who dares stand against their agenda. And lurking in the background are people like Cherry, watching it all unfold online and using it as fuel for their own dangerous threats.
According to The New York Post, Cherry used X (formerly Twitter) to post a series of threats targeting Musk, specifically because of his new government role.
On Dec. 6, Cherry reportedly posted: "We’re gunning you down, Muskrat."
Then on Jan. 22, he responded to a post from controversial figure Andrew Tate, saying he had "enough bullets for his b—- a– and all the rest of you manchildren."
Cherry escalated again on Feb. 3, posting two separate messages aimed at Musk:
"You’ve broken the law. You’re on the hit list."
Later that same day, he added: "You’re robbing the American people. We will gut you and parade your corpse through the streets."
Cherry’s final threat came on Feb. 16, when he posted: "I’m going to plant a bomb in Elon Musk’s house." That was the post that finally triggered law enforcement to act. Authorities in Texas traced his phone to a location near Indiana’s southern border with Kentucky.
Local station WAVE-TV reports that Cherry now faces intimidation charges related to the threats. After posting a $2,500 bond, he was released, and his X account has since been taken down.
His lawyer, Bart Betteau, tried to frame the case as a free speech matter, arguing: "Political speech has kind of the highest place in our constitutional hierarchy of what’s allowed, and there’s no question what the state says may have happened would be political speech."
That’s a creative interpretation — to put it kindly.
Ultimately, this whole ordeal serves as a warning.
Hating Musk isn’t necessarily the same as encouraging violence. However, the left’s increasingly extreme rhetoric certainly gives unstable people like Cherry a narrative they feel justified in acting upon.
This is nothing new. In 2017, a far-left shooter attacked Republican lawmakers during the Congressional Baseball Game.
In 2022, another left-wing extremist showed up outside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home, ready to commit violence because of his anger over the leaked draft decision that would overturn Roe v. Wade.
Now, it’s Musk’s turn to be targeted — at least partly because of the nonstop smear campaign leftists have unleashed against him.
The silver lining is that this time, law enforcement moved quickly and took the threats seriously. Cherry’s weapons have been confiscated, and his gun rights could be permanently revoked.
But that doesn’t mean Musk — or Trump, or any prominent figure who isn’t aligned with the left — can rest easy.
