Is Elon Musk Buying MSNBC? Social Media World Jumps to Conclusions After Noticing Familiar Question from Billionaire
A Familiar Question from Elon Musk
Five simple words from Elon Musk captured global attention on Friday. The billionaire, whose path to purchasing Twitter famously began with a similar query, revived the question in an entirely new context.
This week, media giant Comcast announced plans to create a separate company to oversee networks such as USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and the Golf Channel, according to NBC.
While the official plan appears to involve spinning these assets off as a single package, Donald Trump Jr. took the opportunity to stir up conversation with an intriguing suggestion. Sharing a post about MSNBC potentially being for sale, he wrote on X:
“Hey @elonmusk I have the funniest idea ever!!!”
This prompted a familiar response from Musk that immediately set social media abuzz.
“How much does it cost?” Musk replied on X.
The moment evoked memories of 2017 when, during a discussion on Twitter, someone suggested Musk buy the platform. At the time, his now-iconic response was, “How much is it?”.
As users on X drew parallels to that earlier exchange, Musk doubled down, posting, “The most entertaining outcome, especially if ironic, is most likely.”
The interaction sparked speculation and excitement over the idea of one of America’s most left-leaning networks potentially landing in Musk’s portfolio.
Donald Trump Jr. added fuel to the fire, responding to Musk’s query with a jab at MSNBC’s viewership:
“I mean it can’t be much. Look at the ratings.”
