JD Vance and Mike Johnson Caught on Hot Mic Before Trump’s Address to Congress

Vice President J.D. Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson were inadvertently recorded on a hot mic Tuesday night, just before President Donald Trump delivered his speech to Congress.

The two Republican leaders were overheard discussing the upcoming address, with Johnson recalling how he had disliked sitting through speeches by former President Joe Biden.

“By the way, I think the speech is going to be great, but I don’t know how you do this for 90 minutes,” Vance remarked while speaking behind the podium.

“The hardest thing was doing it during Biden when the speech was a stupid campaign speech,” Johnson responded.

However, Johnson quickly seemed to remember the possibility that their conversation could be picked up by the microphone.

As he continued speaking, he subtly lowered the mic positioned at his desk.

The exchange quickly gained traction among conservative social media users, who reacted positively to the candid moment.

“Hot mic JD is the best JD,” one user commented. “He talks on a hot mic just like he talks when he’s in an interview.”

Another added, “What a great little moment of candor.”

“Well, I bet it was rough during Biden’s speeches,” a third noted.

Democrats Disrupt Trump’s Address

Beyond the hot mic incident, Trump’s speech faced multiple interruptions from Democratic lawmakers.

As the president opened his address by emphasizing his victory over now-former Vice President Kamala Harris, some Democrats responded with chants and boos.

At one point, House Speaker Johnson had to step in to remove Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green after he stood up and shook his cane at Trump, causing a disruption in the chamber.

“Members are directed to uphold and maintain decorum in the House and to cease any further disruptions,” Johnson declared, addressing Green’s outburst.

He then instructed the House sergeant at arms to escort Green out of the chamber.

Speaking outside the chamber, Green defended his actions in an interview with NBC News.

“As a person of conscience, I think that Trump has done things that I think we cannot allow to continue,” Green asserted.

“This whole budget that he has is one that is going to cause Medicaid to be cut, and when he said he had a mandate, it triggered something,” he continued.

“It really did. Because he doesn’t have a mandate, and he doesn’t have a mandate to cut health care from poor people.”
