JD Vance Shuts Down Heckler Who Can't Handle the Truth About Immigration and Housing

Vice President J.D. Vance faced down a couple of hecklers on Monday while discussing the rising cost of housing in the United States.

Speaking at the National League of Cities’ Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C., Vance addressed how elevated immigration levels have contributed to housing costs, as reported by The Daily Signal.

“But when we talk about housing and why costs are so high, we don’t talk enough about demand,” Vance explained to the local officials in attendance.

“And one of the drivers of increased housing demand, we know, is that we’ve got a lot of people over the last four years who have come into the country illegally, and that’s something we have to work on if we want to meaningfully reduce the cost of housing, too,” he continued.

Vance pointed out the undeniable link between an influx of 20 million new residents and the subsequent strain on housing availability.

He also accurately described the surge in demand as “completely preventable.”

“While we’ve made it a little bit hard to build homes in this country over the last four years, we’ve also unfortunately made it way too easy for people to compete against American citizens for the precious homes that are in our country to begin with,” Vance added.

As he expanded on his argument by drawing parallels to similar trends in Canada and the United Kingdom, a heckler interrupted him.

“I see one of our nice representatives out here wants to actually, I guess, continue to flood the country with illegal immigrants, making your communities and citizens unaffordable,” Vance responded.

Rather than backing down, he directly addressed the heckler before moving forward with his speech.

“But ma’am, with all respect, one of the reasons why we’re doing what we’re doing is because we want to make it more affordable for Americans to live,” he stated, as captured in a video posted on X.

Another heckler later disrupted his speech.

“I can tell you that yes, of course, you’re going to disagree with some of our policies. That’s OK. Come and tell us when you disagree with our policies, and we’ll have a conversation about it,” Vance responded before being interrupted again.

However, the disruption didn’t seem to be particularly effective.

“Maybe don’t shout it in front of 2,000 people. I can’t even hear what you’re saying, sir,” he said, as seen in another clip shared on X.

Despite the hecklers’ objections, Vance’s argument remained clear.

It all comes down to supply and demand.

When immigration surges and housing availability fails to keep up, prices naturally rise. This economic reality applies to both legal and illegal immigration.

However, as Vance emphasized, illegal immigration specifically impacts working-class Americans the most, as undocumented individuals compete for both housing and jobs.

This dual impact both raises housing costs and suppresses wages, making it even harder for Americans to afford to live comfortably.

No matter how much emotional rhetoric is used to deflect from the issue, the financial realities remain. Illegal immigration is making life more difficult for many Americans—especially those already struggling.
