Joe Biden Gets Emotional During Final White House Event
President Joe Biden was visibly moved during a farewell dinner hosted at the White House on Sunday evening, as his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, paid tribute to him as her “husband and hero.”
The event, held on the South Lawn, was organized to thank Democratic donors and supporters. Jill Biden reflected on her husband’s decades-long service, including his four years as president. However, Vice President Kamala Harris was notably absent, reportedly vacationing in Hawaii.
“What I’ve watched you do for more than 40 years is extraordinary… Joe, what you’ve done the last four years is breathtaking,” Jill Biden said, prompting the president to tear up. She added, “My husband and hero, Joe Biden,” before the couple embraced and shared a kiss.
The president then took to the stage to deliver his remarks, starting with humor: “If you have a seat, please take it. Don’t jump in the pool!”
He continued, “Jill and I are hosting this dinner tonight for a very simple reason: to say thank you. Thank you to so many dear friends.” Biden reflected on their administration’s mission, saying, “We began this journey to redeem the soul of the nation and define the light in the darkness. And I never could have gotten to where the White House has become without you, and we never could have gotten as much done as we did without you. And that’s not hyperbole. I mean it from the bottom of my heart.”
While Biden’s time in office included significant milestones, his policies on immigration remain a focal point of debate. His administration’s open-border stance, implemented from day one, has contributed to millions of illegal immigrants entering the country.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, newly appointed to lead a House subcommittee on government efficiency, addressed this issue during an appearance on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures. Greene criticized sanctuary cities and states for protecting illegal immigrants while continuing to receive federal funding.
“Sanctuary states and cities that provide havens for illegal criminal aliens need to justify why they should receive federal tax dollars,” Greene argued.
The Georgia congresswoman, heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside figures like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, revealed plans to tackle spending inefficiencies, particularly those tied to the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies.
She cited the case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student tragically murdered in Athens, Georgia, by Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan illegal immigrant. Ibarra had been flown from New York to Atlanta on a “humanitarian flight” in 2023.
Greene outlined broader spending cuts, targeting government programs and contracts she described as wasteful. “The way to do that is to cut programs, contracts, employees, grant programs—you name it—that are failing the American people and not serving their interests,” she stated.
She also vowed to scrutinize government-funded media, such as NPR, which she accused of promoting “Democrat propaganda,” and to assess whether existing contracts and programs remain relevant or have outlived their purpose.
