Kamala Harris' Border Visit Backfires Before She Even Arrives - Border Patrol Union Releases Statement
The last place Vice President Kamala Harris should be visiting with just over a month remaining before Election Day is the border.
It doesn't take a seasoned campaign strategist to recognize that this is her weakest area, especially given that her tenure has coincided with millions of illegal immigrants crossing into the country. This has happened despite President Joe Biden assigning Harris in 2021 to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration.
Any reasonable person would see this, but apparently Harris doesn’t, as evidenced by her planned trip to the border in Arizona on Friday.
Harris was set to speak Friday evening in Douglas, Arizona. Before her visit, the Border Patrol union released a statement in which National Border Patrol Council Vice President Art Del Cueto did not hold back in criticizing her.
Fox News' Bill Melugin shared the statement on X Friday morning:
Del Cueto, an outspoken critic of the Biden-Harris administration's border policies, called the visit "a slap in the face to the American public," adding that "in reality, it is a slap in the face towards the men and women who put their lives on the line every day."
He ended with a pointed question directed at those frustrated with the administration's handling of the situation:
"Where has she been?"
As Melugin highlighted, this marks Harris’ first border visit since 2021, when she visited El Paso, Texas.
Her visit isn't driven by principle—since she hasn’t demonstrated any.
She's going because she wants power.
Only the campaign trail has brought her there.
But what does she actually hope to achieve?
Candidates need to distinguish themselves from their opponents to sway undecided voters.
For Harris, visiting the border only serves as a reminder to voters of how much more secure things were under former President Donald Trump.
The numbers speak for themselves: December 2023 recorded a peak in migrant encounters at the border, as reported by Pew Research in February.
Calling Harris' decision to visit the border a political misstep would be an understatement.
Del Cueto has every right to be angry, considering that Harris hasn’t fulfilled her responsibilities over the past three and a half years.
She doesn’t want to do the job now either—she just wants to be president.
