Kamala Harris' Border Visit Backfires Before She Even Arrives - Border Patrol Union Responds

With Election Day just over a month away, Vice President Kamala Harris heading to the border is possibly the worst move she could make.

It doesn’t take an expert campaign strategist to see that this is one of the areas where she has shown the least effectiveness. Since taking office, millions of illegal immigrants have crossed into the U.S., despite Harris being tasked by President Joe Biden in 2021 to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration.

Anyone with common sense can recognize this, but apparently Harris does not, as her planned visit to the border in Arizona this Friday demonstrates.

Harris was set to speak in Douglas, Arizona, but before her arrival, the Border Patrol union released a harsh statement. Art Del Cueto, Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, delivered a scathing critique of Harris.

Fox News' Bill Melugin shared the statement on X Friday morning:

Del Cueto, a well-known critic of the Biden-Harris administration's border policies, described the visit as “a slap in the face to the American public,” adding, “what it is in reality is a slap in the face towards the men and women that put their lives on the line every day.”

He then asked a powerful question, one that reflects the frustration many feel toward the administration’s approach to the border crisis:

“Where has she been?”

As Melugin noted, this marks Harris’ first visit to the border since 2021, when she made a stop in El Paso, Texas.

Her visit is not motivated by principle, as it’s clear she has none.

She’s going because she’s seeking power.

Her presence there is driven purely by the campaign trail.

But what can she really achieve by this visit?

Candidates often try to distinguish themselves from their opponents to win over undecided voters.

In Harris’ case, showing up at the border only serves to remind those voters how much more secure things were during former President Donald Trump’s administration.

The numbers are hard to ignore: December 2023 saw record-high migrant encounters, as reported by Pew Research in February.

To call Harris’ decision to visit the border a political misstep would be putting it mildly.

Del Cueto’s anger is justified, considering Harris hasn’t fulfilled her role over the past three-and-a-half years.

She has no interest in doing the job now. Her true goal is the presidency.
