Lauren Boebert Defeated in Republican Poll Despite Trump Endorsement

Last week, Representative Lauren Boebert received more concerning news regarding her reelection prospects in Colorado, despite garnering an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

Boebert, a vocal Colorado Republican and staunch Trump supporter, has represented the state’s 3rd District since 2021. However, she is currently seeking reelection to the U.S. House in the 4th District, a move that has raised eyebrows among Republican voters who view the district swap as opportunistic. Boebert narrowly avoided losing her seat to Democrat Adam Frisch in the 2022 midterm elections.

While the 4th District is considered a more solidly red seat, recent straw polls and growing personal scandals have not eased Boebert's path to reelection. Criticism from Republican voters, coupled with concerns over her controversial behavior, including an incident where she was ejected from a Denver theater for inappropriate conduct with a date, has fueled discontent.

In a GOP candidate debate, an informal straw poll of attendees ranked Boebert fifth among nine candidates. Another straw poll on March 3, conducted just after Trump endorsed her, placed Boebert in third position behind former state senator Jerry Sonnenberg and veteran state lawmaker Ted Harvey. The sample size of around 180 debate attendees may be considered too low to draw definitive conclusions about broader trends.

Sonnenberg, expressing respect for Trump's endorsement of Boebert, emphasized the importance of local voters' endorsements. He noted his two-decade service to the district and expressed confidence in earning voters' support over a candidate who recently relocated to the district to maintain a Washington, D.C. presence.

The only poll on the 4th District GOP race listed on the aggregator site FiveThirtyEight shows Boebert with a 25-point lead over state Representative Mike Lynch. However, the polling company, Kaplan Strategies, cautioned that Boebert's lead could diminish as voters coalesce around a single rival candidate as the primary on June 25 approaches.
