Liberal Podcast Host Threatens To Move If Harris Becomes Governor Of California
Rumors are swirling that Vice President Kamala Harris is contemplating a run for governor of California as Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom’s term nears its end. However, not all liberals appear enthusiastic about the prospect.
Ana Kasparian, co-host of “The Young Turks” podcast and a staunch progressive who has been sounding increasingly moderate over the past year, voiced her strong disapproval when her co-host suggested Harris would win the governorship easily.
“I think Kamala Harris would probably win in a cakewalk for governor,” stated “The Young Turks” founder and co-host Cenk Uygur.
“No! No!” Kasparian exclaimed in frustration. “What are you doing? What are you doing?”
Uygur replied, “I’m telling you the reality, whether you like it or not. Democratic voters in California love to obey.”
“I’m gonna move, Cenk! I’m gonna quit my job,” Kasparian retorted. “I’m gonna quit my job, and I’m gonna move.”
Uygur clarified, “I’m not saying I’m in favor of it. I’m telling you what’s, like, if they, the Democratic Party, said, ‘We anoint Kamala Harris,’ a giant percentage of Democrats in California would go, ‘Yes! We obey. We will take the loyalty oath. It doesn’t matter how bad she is!’”
Kasparian fired back, “This state cannot survive another incompetent Democrat leading it. No, we just can’t.”
She continued, “So, like, people are egging her on, OK? Apparently she’s, like, in a wait-and-see mode.”
“How about you wait and see, like, your way out of public life? And go do what you’re supposed to do. Go work in the private sector. Go do the lobbying thing—whatever it is. But don’t run as governor of California. Do not!”
On CNN, reporter Isaac Dovere disclosed that Harris had privately confided in supporters about her potential plans to run for California governor in 2026 or for president in 2028. According to Dovere, Harris is motivated not to let her “final act” be certifying Donald Trump’s victory over her.
“We haven’t seen or heard much from Vice President Kamala Harris since she lost the election last month,” CNN’s Manu Raju said during a segment. “But the Democratic Party is still reeling from Trump’s victory.”
Dovere elaborated, saying Harris is weighing two potential paths forward.
“What she’s been saying to people over the last couple of weeks, donors, other supporters that she’s been talking with, is you haven’t seen the last of me, I’m not going quietly into the night,” Dovere reported. “Advisers, people close to her are debating about what that means. They do not want her final official act ever to be essentially certifying Donald Trump’s win over her, especially four years after January 6th. And so they look at this governor’s race in California in 2026, and it seems to them like a layup essentially, that she would probably clear the field or mostly clear the field, and she would get to be governor of California.”
Dovere noted that Harris faces a strategic decision: running for governor in 2026 would likely preclude a presidential campaign in 2028, as it would require an immediate declaration.
“And that is what it really comes down to,” Dovere added. “There are people close to her who say she didn’t get a fair shot this year. It wasn’t up to what she could have done. And look how well she performed anyway. She should get to go again in 2028.”
Others, however, argue Harris may face significant obstacles in a Democratic primary, with the possibility of losing the nomination. “To come off of 2024 into that would be really terrible,” Dovere concluded.
