LSU Quarterback Found Unresponsive After 'Terrible Accident'

A car accident at 2:45 a.m. has resulted in LSU freshman quarterback Colin Hurley being hospitalized.

As reported by WBRZ-TV, Hurley, 17, was driving a vehicle that collided with a tree. The aftermath of the collision left debris scattered near the south gates of the LSU campus.

First responders extracted Hurley from the vehicle, according to the crash report. The report also noted that Hurley drifted in and out of consciousness and suffered a significant facial laceration.

An ESPN report stated that Hurley was found “unresponsive” when LSU police and the Baton Rouge Fire Department arrived on the scene. The vehicle involved in the crash was identified as a Dodge Charger.

WBRZ reported that the cause of the accident has not been disclosed. Officials, whose identities were not revealed, told the station that impairment was not suspected as a factor in the crash.

Due to Hurley’s status as a minor, LSU officials refrained from commenting on the incident. “We are working through proper protocols with his family before we can have any comment,” LSU representative Zach Greenwell told the New York Post.

Hurley’s family issued a statement expressing optimism about his recovery. “Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion,” the statement read. “Colin is resting and is stable while more tests and care are being administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident,” the family added.

The New York Post noted that Hurley, a Jacksonville, Florida native, did not participate in games this past season. He is listed as the third-string quarterback on LSU’s depth chart.
