Maher Questions Why Media Avoiding Allegations Against Kamala’s Husband

HBO’s "Real Time" host Bill Maher recently questioned why the mainstream media has largely ignored allegations of misconduct involving Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, raised by a former girlfriend.

“There’s a lot of talk in the news this week about Doug,” Maher said during a panel discussion on the "Overtime" segment of his show.

“If people don’t know, the Daily Mail is reporting that three women, who were friends with Emhoff’s ex-girlfriend, have corroborated her claims,” Maher explained, referencing the standard practice in such cases. “She said back in 2011, I think, at the Cannes Film Festival, he slapped her, thinking she was flirting with the valet.”

Conservative radio host Buck Sexton then added, “He knocked up the nanny, right? That’s confirmed.”

Maher chuckled, responding, “That’s confirmed. He definitely knocked up the nanny.”

Maher further elaborated, “If this gains credibility—and we don’t know yet. Even many conservative outlets haven’t covered it, so I won’t fault anyone for not reporting it right now. These things need to be verified. But if it becomes more credible, say at the level of Brett Kavanaugh’s accusations, which were reported quickly by everyone, will the liberal media keep ignoring it?”

Sexton was quick to reply, “Yes, they will. Absolutely.”

Maher then asked, “Wouldn’t that make it look worse?”

In reference to the Kavanaugh situation, Maher mentioned that several of his accusers were later found to have lied. In fact, GOP senators made criminal referrals to the Justice Department regarding four accusers who allegedly provided false testimony, but no action was taken.

Emhoff, celebrated in the media as a positive figure of masculinity, is now at the center of controversy. He recently admitted to an extramarital affair with his family’s nanny, which resulted in her pregnancy and contributed to the breakdown of his first marriage to Kerstin Emhoff.

Reflecting on that period, Emhoff said in a statement, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some difficult times because of my actions. I took responsibility, and over the years we’ve worked through it as a family, emerging stronger.”

The Daily Mail also reported serious allegations against Emhoff, including a 2012 incident where he allegedly “forcefully slapped” his then-girlfriend. Additional claims surfaced about “inappropriate” and “misogynistic” behavior during his tenure at the Los Angeles law firm Venable from 2006 to 2017.

Despite these controversies, media interviews with Emhoff have largely avoided the subject. When MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough touched on “tabloid stories,” Emhoff did not directly deny the allegations.

Scarborough stated, “[Trump’s] spreading it about you, saying that these tabloid stories about your personal life should be front and center. He’s also making crude and lewd suggestions about your wife’s past. I’m just curious, you seem very zen and mindful, but wouldn’t you be pissed off? How do you stay centered and not push back hard?”

Emhoff replied, without addressing the allegations, “We don’t have time to be p***ed off. We don’t have time to focus on it. It’s all a distraction designed to get us off our game.”

Scarborough pressed, “Does it get you off your game?”

“No,” Emhoff responded. “All we are focused on is this election. We understand the stakes, the responsibility. Our country’s future is at stake—who do you want picking the next three Supreme Court justices? The guy who picked the three that overturned Roe v. Wade and want to take away more freedoms?”
