Marjorie Taylor Green Makes Stunning Decision to End It
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, set to head a new House subcommittee focused on government efficiency, remarked on Sunday that “sanctuary” cities and states offering refuge to illegal immigrants while refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities should have to justify their receipt of federal tax dollars.
Appearing on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, the Georgia Republican, recently appointed to lead a subcommittee that will work alongside the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the leadership of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, outlined her intentions to cut government spending.
Greene emphasized her commitment to addressing the border crisis and drug trafficking, which she attributed to the policies of Biden and Harris.
“I’d like to talk to the governors of sanctuary states and the mayors of sanctuary cities and have them come before our committee and explain why they deserve federal dollars if they’re going to harbor illegal criminal aliens in their states and their cities,” Greene stated.
She also brought attention to the tragic case of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally killed while jogging on the University of Georgia campus in Athens this February. Investigations revealed that Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was responsible for her death. Ibarra had been allowed to board a “humanitarian flight” from New York City to Atlanta in September 2023.
In her appearance, Greene laid out various areas for potential budget cuts as part of her subcommittee’s efforts to trim federal expenditures.
“The way to do that is to cut programs, contracts, employees, grant programs, you name it, that are failing the American people and not serving the American people’s interests,” she said during the interview with Fox.
The subcommittee, according to Greene, will also scrutinize government-funded media, such as National Public Radio, which she accused of spreading “nothing but Democrat propaganda.” She added that the panel would evaluate government contracts and initiatives to determine whether they “make sense” or if “their purpose has expired.”
Greene also discussed the continued trend of remote work among government employees following the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re also looking at many – we have thousands – of buildings that the federal government owns and pays for with over $15 billion a year, but yet those government buildings stood empty and these government employees stay at home,” she explained.
She described these inefficiencies as “failures” in how the federal government serves taxpayers.
“And we don’t care about people’s feelings,” Greene added. “We’re going to be searching for the facts and we’re going to be verifying if this is worth spending the… American people’s hard-earned tax dollars on.”
President-elect Trump, after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, announced that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, would be co-led by Musk and Ramaswamy. Both had voiced their commitment during Trump’s campaign to reducing the size and scope of the federal government.
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency [DOGE],” Trump declared on his Truth Social platform.
‘DOGE’ is also the name of a cryptocurrency frequently promoted by Musk.
“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump noted in a statement.
According to ABC News, Trump explained that DOGE would “partner” with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to implement structural government reforms and “provide advice and guidance from outside of government.”
“‘This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!’ stated Mr. Musk,” the statement added.
